it doesn't matter if it's rusted at the edges, it's normal. i wouldn't bother with sanding, the rust will come back again. and you really don't want bits of sandpaper and rust shavings on the rotors and brake calipers.

rust on your brakes. I have never heard of such a thing. then again I grew up cali and live in AZ now. NO humidity or moisture. No wonder they love to buy classic cars from CA and AZ

Hes talking about the perimeter of the rotor, the outside edge. It’s pretty common area for rust, but it is only surface rust. It will not cause any issue besides looking bad. I find that almost all Japanese cars have this problem and rust on the center of the rotor, less so on German cars.

Like I said in your other thread, you can paint, but if you really want to make it look perfectly clean, get the rotors cut and put in some new pads. If you are going to paint, don't sand the rotor surface, just sand the hat.
