Default Vaistech SlVi2 Install Suggestions

so i bought the vaistech ipod video integration kit and now i was wondering where i should install it?? any suggestions with pictures???

i saw one post where the person placed it in the center console. that seems like it is the best option but i wanted to see if anyone else had another suggestion that might be better.

Yea, I installed in glove compartment.

Side question, is there supposed to be an adapter or something to have the iPod charge? Mine doesn't charge using the regular adapter...

i have done installs in both locations. to me the center console is cleaner and more easily accessible, but either location is good imho

I installed it in the glove department, i think its safer since you can lock it up. Plus theres no reason to touch the iPod, if you control it with the navigation screen.

There should be another piece that the adapter connects to, which then connects to the iPhone or iPod for charging capability. I don't have any photos, but it would've come with the box. Was mentioned that all new versions of the SL2Vi will have the charger adapter.

audio (mp3), yes. but if you have the sl2vi and you want to play video, you have to control through the ipod

I went with the center console. Since I have an extra iPhone, I just leave it in there at all times. Initally I ordered from VaisTech, the SL2Vi (video) and the SL2s (Sirius) and the Shark Fin adapter. Mike (passnu2) helped (when I say helped I mean he installed) me and they worked perfectly. But of course then I realized what good is the video interface and iPod interface if doesn't work while the car is in motion so it was time to get the Datasystem TV Navi kit. I ordered and got it even though I had some concerns that it would not work with my 08 GS with no ML. rominl told me it would work so this weekend I was brave enough to try and install on my own. I did and it worked perfectly. Was pretty easy. I was confused a bit because the NAVI kit has two additional plugs that didn't seem to fit (see pictures) where they were suppose to but I assume that is for an older model or ML system. I called Mike and he said just leave unplugged and just plug in the harness, which I did and all is perfect. Now everything works as is. Video, ipod, Sirius...all chugging along

I'm planning to install it where the ashtray is. Probably put in some velour padding in that area too...

i'm trying to install the vaistech right now, but one of the plugs wont' fit into the factory harness... did you guys have to dremel off a portion of the factory harness plug??

updated: called vaistech.. apparently you have to sand it off. hopefully the rest of the install won't be too bad.. btw...that little black thing in the center console is freakin hard to take off

it was the blue plug that goes from the bottom of the head unit to the top. i think there are 6 pins inside of it.. there is this little plastic thing on the bottom of it that i had to shave off..

and the black thing is that cover in the center console that is stuck on there like no other.. supposedly it is just stuck on there with some kind of tape or foam thing.. but i think mine is super glued or something.. haha.. i had to give up and just installed the ipod cable in a different location..

ah so i guess that's the sl2vi unit huh? my sl2i-up doesn't touch that plug

and i know which panel you talking about. it's indeed "taped" up pretty well (the whole bottom). if you want, get a little tiny l bracket as leverage and it will come right up
