Post Tpms in aftermarket wheels?

Hello,

I would like to say hello to everyone on this forum as I am a new member. I have purchased a 2006 gs300 and absolutely love the vehicle. My first question is that I am looking to put 20 in rims on my car and have read some threads about the tpms system. Is is a big issue to put the sensors on the new rims or can one get away without them? Does the tpms light affect driving or engine computer in any way? I am ok with the light flashing if thats all it does. Secondly does having rims on your car when you go to dealer affect your warranty. In my last car I would always remove the rims with going to the dealer for any service. Lastly I have a park assist button in my car but am dumbfounded as to how to use it. Owners manual is not very helpful. Any advise is greatly appreciated. Thank You

tpms is for tire pressure monitoring, nothing to do with engine computer. if you don't use them, what you will get is the warning light on the dash saying tpms malfunction

not all aftermarket wheels are tpms compatible, you need to make sure you can use them if you want to put them in

if your car has problem and dealership can prove that your aftermarket wheels cause the issue, then they can void that part of the warranty. otherwise they can't void your warranty because you have aftermarket wheels

while you are not required to have tpms for your new 20" rims, it is a good idea to have them. just swap the tpms from your oem wheels to your aftermarket wheels (that's what i've done).

Not having TPMS in the wheels will annoy you. I didn't have my TPMS sensors in my aftermarket rims programmed for about three weeks and I had three lights: the TPMS light, the "master problem" light (dunno what it's called exactly but it's the red triangle exclamation mark) and the display under the speedometer will say "CHECK SYSTEM" or something along those lines. Very annoying.
