I know I have a hybrid but I'd like to jump in here. I've driven my car so far 20 miles with the reading saying 0 miles. I have filled my tank (ours is smaller 17.2 gallons) up to 16.375 gallons so I almost used it all up.

It seems the reading you will get when you fill up is based on how you drove on the previous tank of gas.

For instance when I drive harder, my MPG lowers of course and I get less MPG to the tank. When I fill up the next time, the computer will report the MPG based on the PREVIOUS tank.

So I've seen variations of 100 miles!! I've seen a full tank say I will get 328 miles until empty and I've seen 438 miles until empty.

Its a damn damn DAMN shame the media takes this cars rare combination of high MPG and near class leading/class leading acceleration for granted!!!
Those tards butthump vehicles in areas owners don't drive them, on the track and super 10/10ths aggressive on the street. In the REAL WORLD this car is a winner with this combo (outside the 430, its MPG is average). Thats why I crap on most of the media mags, they do not accurately portray ownership, the tests are simply one night stands. I much prefer the long term tests.

My goal is to get 500 miles on one tank and I will continue to report findings.

My findings for the hybrid;
1. Flooring it kills MPG
2. Cold Starts give crappy MPG. The car drives much more efficiently warmed up.
3. 45 MPH seems to be the sweet spot. 55-65 MPH is fine. Even up to 85/90 MPG I have noticed the car getting 24 MPG. This is with the windows up to limit drag.
4. Coasting helps a lot with the hybrid. No one coasts at the track but on the road it helps significantly.
5. Passing people hurts MPG (stating the obvious)
6. Keeping the car constantly moving helps MPG. Red light starts hurt MPG.

My personal best is 34.3 MPG driving 45 MPG on a winding road. My worst is 18 MPG flooring the car and driving like a nut

yup mike, that's correct, the reading is a calculation of your driving habits, so if you drive like a mad man, after a few tanks the number will read very low

if i can get 500 miles in my gs350, i am sure you can mike

500 miles on a tank with an '07 GS350 very do-able. Returned yesterday from an L.A - Las Vegas - L.A Run. Averaged 74 MPH and 30.9 MPG. When I refilled, I put in 15.96 gallons (drove 493 miles with 2-3 gallons yet to use).

Odd...stop and go city driving I'll be happy getting 15-16 MPG. But on the highway, the car sips gas as slowly as my sister's Kia.

only 390miles range.. just fill up today.. 25.5mpg. haha, not so great but I'll try to do better.. conserve gas.

my 5miles in the city cost about 1mpg less. It seem redlight stop cost about 0.05mpg so they add up.

Oh... btw, I ran about 30miles with the cruise range showing zero. hahaha I trust my Lexus to make it and it did.

On a recent round trip from Phoenix to San Diego, I filled up in S.D. after driving 480 miles with about 1/8 tank left. MPG was 31.4. It obviously would be better w/o using A/C.

good to know our Lexus won't let us stranded on the road without gas.

Did U fill it full at Phoenix? if U did than when U reach San Diego, just do a full fill up again and U can get almost the exact fuel that you used.

I don't feel the AC make any big dif when you just cruise.

Yes, I filled up in Phx before heading to S.D.
Also, I earlier this year filled up in Tucson, then drove to Phx (approx. 130 miles). That trip resulted in over 34 mpg w/o using the A/C (my wife claims it's because we were declining in altitude - she may be right. As I didn't have a full tank before departing for Tucson, the displayed mpg wouldn't be accurate for that leg.). I wish the Lexus had a trip computer setting in which one could zero it out before beginning a drive. I had this feature on previous BMW's and used it frequently.

My mistake - I meant a reset to zero for mpg when beginning a driving segment.

430 cruising miles after a fresh tank pumping but thats mostly highway miles where my average is 28mpg. Not bad though!
