in for 3 Recalls and mirror fix
they fixed the three recalls on my gs430...the fourth issue is the tilting side mirror problem. It wont tilt all the time when i engage the car in reverse. the driver side always works. Well the passenger side works about 90 percent of the times. Lexus said they will not fix it unless it acts up in front of them. That bugs me. I asked if i can video it and he said that is not sufficient. Anybody else have this problem. I searched and and found that it was always fixed by lexus.
reason i posted was to see if anyone else had a hassle. Or if i should talk to someone specific. thanx

there is no TSB for teh mirror tilting. it's basically the plastic gear inside wearing out causing the mirror to not tilt down. very common problem among all lexus, not just gs
but then again, i can't blame dealership for not able to do anything unless they can duplicate the problem. i'd definitely request to talk to service manager and ask for his opinions, especially if your warranty is expiring. tell him if you have this problem "on file" already, if it get worse, they should cover it. and ask him why using video won't be "enough".
when i had my sc430 i was lucky coz' i have been with my SA for a long time and they trust my words

I had the exact same issue with my driver side mirror and it was fixed under the original factory warranty (~$600 per mirror assembly). They told me that the internal gear slipped. To fix it, physically push on the mirror until it gets back into gear. Also, you may want to cancel the automatic tilt down during reverse. This may be a better option rather than paying $600+ for a new mirror assembly. After reviewing the Lexus "Platinum" extended warranty, this item should be covered.

I had mine replaced within the first 6 months of having the car. I was wondering if the drivers having this issue are having the issue because we are taller and have the mirrors set to the limit.
PEOPLE WITH THIS PROBLEM WHAT IS YOUR HEIGHT???
my service rep said it was because I had the mirrors set as far out as they can go. still no excuse, but do you guys think its mainly a problem for taller drivers with the mirrors set further out
