Whlkev, if I drive spirited my average drops considerably! Lately that has been more frequent with sway bars installed etc.....

With the advantage of knowing that the decision was already made, I'll agree with scorpio74 on there being some value to having more warranty. So, while in generic terms, like most everyone else, I'd take a 460 for $5,000 more, I don't think the buyer necessarily made a bad choice.

- He got the CPO.
- The 430 had 30K mi while the 460 had 35K mi. While not "high," it is relatively high among 2008 GS460s on the market.
- A sale price of around $38,000 on an 08 GS460 (to net a bit over $40K) looks to be something of an outlier. So, the comparison really only applied to that 460, not the generic "Would you take a 430 for $36K or a 460 for $40K?" No choice on the 460 end was involved.
- Precisely how much power or how quick a particular car is doesn't matter to most people. They aren't things that end up mattering a great majority of the time that someone is enjoying their car - That's especially true when those differences are a few tenths of a second.

Good point drpepper. Lexus OEM warranty is 4yrs or 50k mi whichever comes first. After that, you're on your own. So the gs460 already has 35k mi, that's only one yr or less the warranty's going to expire. I bought my gs430 certified 6yrs or 100k mi. Well, 2 months after the purchase, my DVD head unit acted up. Navigation screeen blackout or showed fuzzy static screen. Talked to Lex service advisor and he told me to bring it in. After 2 hrs, he decided that the head unit has to be replaced. Total cost $5,600. But since the car is under warranty, cost me $0. This is just one example why CPO vehicle is more preferred, imho.

I just purchased 2006 GS430 with Nav/ML for $34,900 out the door. It has 26K miles and is CPO. While at the dealer they had a 2008 GS460 and it was priced at $47,995. It had 28K miles but much more money. I would suspect that the GS460 that is being discussed has/had some problems. Thats why it was not CPO and who know how many accidents it had. I would go with CPO over 2 more gears, few tenth of seconds increase in speed, and upgraded NAV any day.

Good decision in the end by the buyer.
