Theres lots out there to do it, but it's still a major pain to have to make a copy, remove coverart from the files, and then copy to usb.... instead of just copying directly off my server onto the usb for playback. I'm a software developer, so I'm almost tempted to write my own utility just for copying to the GROM device and just do all of the steps automatically.

Still, if doing that will help me get rusty at console disassembly then I'll do it...

Does anybody else use GROM and have issues? I wrote a small program to automatically fix some of the issues I believe GROM has pertaining to folder naming and MP3 tags containing art on your USB drive.

I can upload it for you to try if anybody wants it.

They won't give us the source code to the firmware itself, unfortunately, so I had to write a windows program that crawls through your USB drive full of music you intend to use with GROM and fix things like directory structure into their "approved" format of sequentially named virtual discs and strip out the album art (based on just a hunch that this might be part of what's causing it to choke at startup).

Since I've done these things manually previously to a stick I've been using in the car for a while, the problem hasn't returned, so I'm hoping that this does it...

tuning in to see if jay's fix does it before i bite the bullet and buy a GROM.

one quick question - does using GROM improve sound quality over using a CD-R burned CD?

No. But it is better than the ipod interfaces that have analog audio feeds.

Update on GROM in the GS. Ever since the last firmware update posted for this about a month ago I have had zero issues with the GROM. I hope I'm not jinxing it by saying it, but it appears that they may have finally sorted all of the gremlins out. It only took them 44 firmware revisions to get it right.

If this holds up the unit is finally definitively a good deal compared to the medialinq if you're just interested in playing MP3s directly off USB drives.

Here's the direct link to the firmware:
http://www.gromaudio.com/downloads/f...sb2_toy_44.hex

I have not needed to do anything weird with my files using that tool I wrote for it to behave with this firmware version.

I have mine sitting in my garage... I need to get it installed ASAP. I also ordered their BT dongle. As soon as I get a chance, I'll install it (along with my PS)...

I trashed that project when I determined it didn't matter any more. With the latest updates to GROM the biggest glitch I've had since is just that it seems to forget sometimes that I want it on the USB input and I have to switch inputs back to USB by pressing FM then CD then next disc (or something like that...)

It hasn't "locked up" in quite a while now.
