Default Illuminated Side Mirror Lights Used As Signal Blinkers

I am constantly finding out new things about my GS430 that put a big smile on my face. Another great thing I noticed today was the illuminated door entry lights that shine from the bottom of the side mirrors when you unlock your car or get close to it with the sensor key. So naturally I wondered if there is a possibility to use that as a side mirror turning blinker when you drive. I noticed that our side mirrors don't have that option... or do they?

Anyone tried this or can think of a way to make it work?

Thanks.

but i'm guessing that would be pretty costly as opposed to maybe doing some wire-work to get the side mirror blinkers setup. any wire specialists here chime in?

^ hit up our vendor Nigel and he can get you the parts you need. Its not expensive at all and there is a full DIY thread posted that another member posted. You can see pics of them installed also.

mike, looking at your sig it looks like you did the install too. how hard was it? I saw the diy pics and it looked pretty lengthy, almost taking the entire door panels apart. With my car skills, I would be very reluctant to mess with a 60k car like that..hah.

I would not recommend the puddle lights to be wired as turn signals...they are not bright enough, point down and not to the side and will not add even a tiny bit of safety which is the whole purpose of that mod in the first place. Even a rewire to turn the puddle lights on will be a lengthy process and will involve almost everything you do for the mirror cover install. The mirror covers are not an easy install for those who are not mechanically inclined.

The puddle lights light up when you get close? Mine don't do that. Only if I use the key fob to unlike do they light up.

I agree with EyeKutr, not a good idea to use as signals.

they do, i notice them in the dark when you comne close to the car, i think even if the car is unlocked and you come near, the lights come on....check it in the dark because they are somewhat subtle if there are street lights near by

I recommend the signal blinkers they make the car look much better IMO. My friend and I did with the help of EyeKutr and Passnu2. I got the blinkers from Nigel already painted and received it with in a few days after payment. Those 3 guys were a big help. They can help you too

When I use my key fob to unlock, it lights up and I can see. Under the same ambient light conditions, getting near won't light them up. Do you think this is a customized function that has been turned off? I bought my car used so that could be possible. Is this also known as the 'coming home' function? I wonder if anyone has an all-inclusive list of customizable options. Hmmmmm

the manual says you have to have the "door" light set to on for the FOB to turn the light on as you get close.

I know its best to install the cover but just wondered if anyone gave my idea a try. Would be interesting...
