i honestly dont think it looks bad but at the same time i wouldnt switch up tires for the very little added sidewall height.

this pic pretty much shows me exactly why i think the tire is way too wide for a 8.5 wheel. but then again, it's not my car
its the angle of the tire in the photo. Look at these close up shots. I have to say I am happy with the way it looks and the fact that it has the rating to support the weight of the car is a bonus ( especially with the insane road temps we get in AZ). The extra sidewall allows me to have a bit more piece of mind when driving the LA freeways, provides a smoother ride, and will probably allow me to bring my tire pressures down to 38-40 psi insted of the 42-44 I usually run. I am going to give it a try and see how it works. If I get any rubbing I will switch back but considering that tires only last about 9 months I can live with it if it happens.

I'm going to be running that tire size as well on my next set. tho I will be running it on my 10" rear with 225/35 on the front.

The 255 look to wide for the 8.5 wheels! What brand tires were you running when they bubbled and peeled?

And I have 235 30 on my 8.5 wheel and I have no problem with them and I am a lot lower then you!!!

Hi I8
you make some interesting point about the load....what exactly are the recommendations for load capacity for tires for our car ? I figure you have a 3800 pound car (is it?) and can have 4 250 pound guys - so 5000 lbs max divided by 4 - 1250 max per tire ?? I dunno LOL

that's exactly the angle i was looking for, that's why i didn't comment on your other pics. that pic cleanly shows that the tire is wider than the wheel. on a 9" wide it will be more appropriate.

i am talking about look, not load. i am sure we all read about your load concern already

The load rating for our cars in a 93 . The 245/30 is a 91. The 255/30 varies from 93 to 92 depending on the brand. Its not a big spread but I will take what I can get when the road temperature is in the 140 + range. In cali I dont think it will be a problem but in AZ it may help

This is a better shot that makes my point. I t is a straight shot from above the wheel. It is still working so far. No rubbing to be reported. I am going out with friends this week end and I will load her up and see what happens. I will let you guys know

they were Falken FK452's that I was pushing to see how far I could take them ( not a good idea). I am surprised you aren't at least running a 245/30. Does your car have that tilted look?? It bothered me that the diameter difference between the front and the rear was so great. With your set up its even greater.

A tire's maximum load is the most weight the tire is designed to carry. Since a tire's load carrying capacity is related to the tire's size and how much inflation pressure is actually used, maximum loads are rated with the tire inflated to an industry assigned inflation pressure.( not sure what it is)

Additionally, load ranges are used to separate tires that share the same physical size, but differ in strength due to their internal construction. "Higher" load ranges are used to identify tires that have a stronger internal construction, and therefore can hold more air pressure and carry more weight.
