I have inquired more than a few times to see if anyone has tried a 255/30/20 in the front with a solid drop ( DF210's or coilovers) and have had zero luck
. It seems like we all jumped on the 245/30/20 's after the 245/35/20's led to rubbing with a lot of members initially. What bothered me was the fact that we widened the rears but we are rolling on tires that have stock width. I thought the purpose of after market wheels was to go wider not just taller. My offsets will allow me enough room, plus every single 3GS I have ever seen in a Lexus showroom has had a 255/30 in the front not a 245/30. I ordered a set of Falken FK452's today with the wider 255/30/20 in the front and the old 275/30 in the rear ( also common sizes with 3 series bimmers). I am hoping all works well but I will keep you guys posted as to the results. I will try to post pics ASAP. I am pretty sure they will work and I am hoping they will reduce the diameter discreprancy between the front and the rear tires, add more side wall for wheels protection and a slightly nicer ride. I also looked at the weight rating of the stock tires vs the rating for the 245/30 and the 245/30 is technically not rated high enough to hold the weight of the vehicle on 98% of the tires out there. The 255/30 will slightly increase the weight rating to 92 out of 93 in stead of the 90 to 91![Thumb Up](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

Now... is there a real point to getting a tire thats going to be... 10cm or whatever it is wider? I really don't see a point. I'm sure others have ran this tire before but it isn't any different from the 245/30-20, if anything it will cause more rubbing or chances of rubbing.
Some tire research:

just 10mm increase in the width won't really gain much handling imho, and 245/30/20 is the correct "spec" size anyway. personally i don't think it will make rubbing issues much worse, but definitely affected. and yes, 255 on 20x8.5, personally i think that's too wide

check the wheel thread....I am already running that size
But I think I have a wider front rim then you do...I have no issues dumped and I am going lower on coils.

Its worked out pretty well so far. I havent had any rubbing yet but I am keeping my ears open. I think it looks better than the 245/30 because it fill out the fender a bit better. It also has a slightly better load rating and slightly higher sidewall. It looks perfectly squared off. It doesn't look chunky like a 245/35. In the end we are talking about a .23" in crease in diameter. Its not very different from the 245/30, but does look better. I will post close up shots when I can

Um... this thread is worthless without pics, does that sound like a familiar phrase.

i personally think that the 255 would look like crap. the tries would of have no stretch to them making the side wall look thick! everyone i know wants the stretch look, i was going to go 235 with a 9 inch front but couldnt since my wife drives my car and i drive way to much on crappy roads!!!

getting the propert tire size is a delicate balance. I think when people stretch it looks stupid to me. Why cut performance and have the outer edge of the wheel sticking out, looks stupid to me. I used to have 235s on my 19x8.5 up front on my IS250 and it looked good, so I am sure if you use a 245/30/20 on an 8.5 it would look good as well due to the lower profile. Maybe if the tires were made small, like falkens tend to be a 255 would look like most other 245s.
