Tahara, Aichi, Japan....at least this where the GS450H is assembled, but I would assume all GS are built at the same plant.

I believe if you look at the VIN # and it starts with a "J" than its made in Japan.

GSs are produced in Tahara, Japan, regarded as maybe the best plant in the world. It is clearly one of the best.

Search TAHARA in the 3GS forum, I made a thread about it.

Despite years of success in the U.S., the Lexus marque is a relative newcomer in Japan, where the brand was introduced in 2005 in a bid to raise profitability in a shrinking auto market. What's more, it's been slow progress. Sales at home were just 31,098 last year-barely a tenth of the U.S. market, where Lexus is the best-selling car in the luxury range.

But when it comes to manufacturing the Lexus, Japan remains very much No. 1. Indeed, while Toyota has been building Lexus RX sport-utility vehicles in Ontario since 2003, all other Lexus models are built at one of four Japanese Toyota facilities.

Earlier this month, BusinessWeek was invited to take a rare look inside the Tahara plant, where the Lexus has been built since the debut of the LS400 sedan in 1989.

Today Tahara, west of Tokyo, produces the LS, GS, and IS lines, including the new LS600h and LS600hL hybrids, the most expensive Lexus sedans to date. With a full spec, the LS600hL costs $126,000 in Japan. It goes on sale in the U.S. later this summer.

At home and abroad, Toyota hopes the new, high-end Lexus will boost the brand in its ongoing battle with luxury rivals Mercedes Benz and BMW. That's especially important in Japan and Europe, where Lexus has yet to emulate its U.S. triumphs. No less important, the gizmo-packed models should also give Lexus engineers more encouragement in their pursuit of auto perfection.
