Thinking about the 3G GS - What do I need to know?
Hello All,
I've been a loyal lexus fan since i bought my first 1998 Lexus GS 400. It has treated me well and it i'm still reaping the rewards. I've just crossed 200k miles on it and it still runs great!
With that said, I need to move this car out of my primary car spot. As a loyal lexus client, I'm looking at the third generation GS model. I won't be buying brand new, but will be looking at the 2008 models.
What are some of the things that I need to know? For example, what are the little quirks that you all have noticed on the 3G GS? What are the positives? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Would you recommend the V6 or the V8?
Thanks in advance for the help and insight!

Some people have had dash rattles (I've been lucky...) and earlier models had a grinding noise at startup but that was fixed.
In terms of which model, I would highly recommend the 450h. It is really what made me choose the GS rather than the 5. It has passing power similar to that of many of the uber-sedans i.e. the M5. Really the funnest driver in the lineup. Since you're buying used, it may be hard to find a 450h with APSSS, a power sway bar that dramatically increases handing, but if you can find it, get it!
Here is a video to reference just how quick the 450h really is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mEJAGw_nNU
