They are all pretty solid cars...no major issues from 06-present model years.
The MOST common problem plaguing the 3GS is the interior rattles.
The more significant (IMO) TSIB that came out for this platform is the "Cold Start Engine Rattle", which requires dismounting the valve covers, cams, etc.
goodluck in your search...

Whoever said the GS 300 AWD had "lots of issues" probably just looked at a Consumer Reports press release:
In 2007, Consumer Reports dropped Lexus from 1st to 5th in their predicted reliability survey. The magazine blamed the 2006 first-year GS in the all-wheel-drive form, which had problems in integrity (rattles), body hardware and sound system, as the sole reason for the slip.
body hardware = easier to dent/chip paint
sound system = not sure about this one, never seen anybody complain about it (except for the fact that it wont play MP3s).

Although there is no official data outlining which engine type is more prone on having the "Cold Start Rattles" (yet)....
I have to agree with you that it seems like the 2GR-FSE (GS350) is more prone on having this issue than the 300, and 430 engines....
I personally noticed this "trend" on this site's thread regarding "Cold Start Rattles" (2nd Gen IS, 3rd Gen GS).

I too is looking for a GS in Quebec, nothing is really available. All the car reviews i read is good on the 2006 gs, funny enough, no one has mention the rattles. I drove test 3 differents GS and only one has rattling in the back.
As time past, i will look into a GS 2007 instead.

I have a '06 300 AWD that's rattle free now. Just had to get the dealer to fix them under warranty. If they weren't covered under warranty I probably would have left them or fixed them with the various tips on here. Mine was never that bad IMO.

Except for the rattles, all the other problem the GS have is far and few in between.
