Default satellite question-sirius to XM?

hello all,
i just bought a 06 gs430 that had a dealer installed sirius tuner and was wondering if i can remove the sirius module and install an XM module? I want to change and figured it wouldn't be too difficult but figured their would be forum members that have done this. if it can be changed where would i buy the XM module?

thanks in advance

mike

I dont think the antenna makes a difference. The receiver is in the trunk. You would just have to swap out the Sirrius receiver for an XM reciever. I am sure your local Lexus dealer would be willing to sell you one (or do it for you). I think the receivers are several hundred dollars (around $400). I have XM in my Lexus and my son has Sirrius in his 09 Mazda 6. There is VERY little difference !!! The two companies merged and 90% of the channels are exactly the same (like LOVE - Sirrius 3 / XM 23). Exact same transmission on both networks. Each network has a "best of" the other available.

I imagine the wiring harnesses are the same from the tuner box to amp. If not the same, it's still not a big deal b/c the tuner box (xm or sirius if OEM) are in the trunk as well as the the amp they plug into (passenger side qtr panel).

For '07 and up, the antenna plug for the sharkfin whether XM or Sirius is the same (based on Vaistech's, a forum sponsor, adapter SFA12M for plugging in an aftermkt tuner to the sharkfin). That being said, if you don't have the sharkfin, you'll either have a trunk, back deck or windshield mount antenna which may or may not have the same antenna plug...

You can pick up the tuner kit from Sewell Lexus, another forum sponor, and save 10% using Club Lexus discount code CL911M which brings it down to $269 or so. Check w/ them too as they should know the specific answer regarding plug once you tell them which type of sat antenna you have.

thanks for the replies everybody. I am also thinking that the parts for both tuner kits may be the same but the brain is the only difference. I know that the 06 gs XM kit has been discontinued, per Sewell Lexus, as the newer(07+) shark fin cars are all sirius so they didnt keep making the xm kits. i would love to find someone that wanted to trade from xm to sirius as i only want xm for the sports programming. i live in the south and cant get a damn SEC game on sirius. RTR!

the quest continues.....

thx
mike

Each offers the best of sirius or best of XM as options on the subscriptions.
I had a sirius added to my IS and it replaced the XM and it was about $400.00
If you can get the stuff you want on the best of extra option you can get that for a long time for the $400.00 difference.
That is what I did when we purchased the GS and I did the same on my Tacoma.
