Default "Captures your mind not your heart"

I was reading the new car issue from one of the major car magazines today. In the magazine , as they always do, they summed up the description of the Lexus GS as a car that " captures your mind not your heart". I wonder what you guys think.

Do you agree or disagree and why????????

What that means is that while the car is appealing and provides great amenities, it simply does not connect the driver to the road like sports sedans should. In its attempt to shield the driver from road noise, bumps, irregularities, it isolates the driver from a great driving experience. I think the car is great, very good cruiser, but the handling of the car could be better. Recently I got a chance to drive a stock gs350 awd at the lexus performance event, and pushed it through the track. I never drive my car like that so I really dont know what the car is like at its limits but it is not that graceful.

I fundamentally agree. Intellectually, the case for a GS can be made quite easily over its competition from BMW, MB, Audi (maybe), etc. on the basis of its appliance-like reliability alone, if not overall quality. However, I have a difficult time thinking of the car emotionally. I had no such difficulty with my BMW's.

I have to say that my gs450h with APSSS and it is a blast to drive. I really liked driving the M45 and some of the other continders (I was not impressed with a A6) but I prefer the GS hands down. I have heard all that crap from Car and Driver and other mags about the GS but you know what they say about opinions....

If I could combine the quality and dependability of GS with the looks of MBZ E-class, I would do it in a heartbeat.

i wouldn't... never was, and never will be a fan of the E-class.....

I would however, put the GS's reliability into an M-series =]

I love the interior fit and finish of the E-class, and I suspect the next gen 5-series (F10) will be similar. When I sit in my GS I think this is nice but I don't fall in love with it.

The driving experience on the other hand is superb, and I would not trade it for anything else currently on the market. And I don't agree its a car for the mind not the heart. I love my GS, and when I am away I look forward to getting home and getting behind the wheel. More so than I did with my 330Ci.

I've had my 2007 350 for a month now. Coming from a VW Jetta for ten years, yeah, this car has captured both my heart and mind. I have a few minor complaints, but overall I find myself thinking -- "this is a machine". I love the smooth pickup.

It seems to me it's not easy to achieve the proper balance of luxury and sport, but this car conveys both convincingly.

Exactly. The balance of luxury and sport is what makes this the most complete sedan. BMW, Audi and Infiniti are competing on who has the harshest ride, while Mercedes has pursued refinement to the point that there is no fun (soft handling, weak throttle response). Lexus has got the balance just right - they may not be the best in any one dimension which is why Car and Driver doesn't like them, but the GS is the consummate total package!

I have to say I am in the middle. I think it has captured my heart and my mind. My mind like the fact that the car is well made, safe, and luxurious. But at the same time I still enjoy its power and torque but understand that the car is no canyon carving heart pounding sedan like a G37 sedan would be

I have to say this car captures my heart more than my Matrix did.

That is until I have to haul anything big and awkward, I guess.
