um, let me explain a little further. there's no problem driving when it's cold. i do have a problem driving when it's freezing (ie: potentially slippery road conditions). additionally, i'm still on my 20" work wheels with toyo summer tires (no winter tires for me). at the first hint of ice or snow, our city blankets the roads with salt. can you say salt corrosion of 20" rims?

I agree, however with all this rain...last night I did get stuck in the mud, and getting the car out of it was no fun...and now it needs significant cleaning...good thing Monday looks to be in the low-mid 60's.

Ahhh I see. 20" Works is definatly a no go in the snow/salt.

it doesn't snow a lot here*. however, they sure do like to put down the salt...just in case. absolutely hate driving my car after they put down a fresh coat of salt. the dust from that after driving it for a day really shows on my dark blue car. we're also getting to the point where it's too cold to get the hose out after work and it usually rains/snows every other day during the winter. I keep it as clean as humanly possible during the winter. what really chaps my *** is when it rains/snows the day/morning after I froze my cajoles off washing it....after watching the weatherman tell me it would not rain/snow for the next few days.

Salt corrosion to the underbody could be some concern, especially if one intends to keep the car for long. As for the paint and the wheels they should be washed often. That's what I do with my 2GS in Europe.

Solution, rust proofing and rinse it down often. No point in trying to make your car look show room fresh during the winter. Luckily I have an underground garage so I just pull out the hose and hose the car down after a particularly salty outing.

Cars don't rust as easily as they did 20 years ago. People have far too many pre-conceived notions. Salt corrosion is definitely a problem but they have electronic rust-proofing now, and it's virtually inexpensive if you really want peace of mind.

Still dying over this one

I was wondering the same thing, what everybody else does in the winters (Except you Cali boys) I was thinking of picking up a Jeep Cherokee because I hate abusing my GS. I already have AWD and it worked great the last mini storm couple weeks back but I just don't want to take off my stock chromies for those ugly black steelies...

Other: Daily Driver for around town if dry and clear and always on long trips. I use one of our other vehicles (Jeep or Explorer) for bad weather driving or trips where door dings are likely. Wife drives her SC400 back and forth to work and not much else.

The GS has been parked for the last month as I've been doing a full detail on it. I'm down to dressing some of the weatherstripping and trim and cleaning the glass and then it'll be fully completed.

Mine's a daily driver, 365 days a year. That's why I bought the AWD. Summer tires get stored from November to March. The only change for winter is a set of high performance snow tires.

I'm lucky to have a big SUV to drive around in the winter time. If I must, I will drive the 3GS.
