I sold my last toyota with the equivalent of 80,000 miles on it and I had no real problems with it. I even had an ECP on it... the ECP did me exactly no good, I didn't get a chance to use it even once. The only things that ever went wrong were one of the rear brakes seizing, probably from corrosion and the fact that I don't drive very much... that was a cheap fix, and an exhaust leak on the down pipe... also an easy fix, new gasket, and probably also corrosion related.

I just went through your same selection process over the last few months and bought a 07 GS3.5 AWD last week.
daudi81 said it well. I also liked the IS350 specs but the small back seats coupled with more of IS's in my area steered me towards the GS.
I also had a GS400 the last 3 years and it seemed like a step backwards to go into the IS. But the IS350 has great performance specs!
Are you concerned with resale at some point in the future? Check the resales in your area to see what the market supports. Always a good idea to look at this even if you plan on keeping the car for a while.
Either way, you'll get a great car!

Not to say it's not fine, but is this reflected in the price compared to other reputable dealers in your area? If it's not negotiate it lower or go elsewhere. Have a third party look over it for damage that was not repaired properly etc. If everything was a quality repair, then if anything it might end up being newer than the mileage indicates especially if engine components were damaged and replaced.
Anyway, I know what you're talking about IS are a dime a dozen here. Vast majority being 250s. I've only seen a handful of GS around in comparison. This automatically makes the GS the more interesting car for me.
