Default Newb to Lexus and this forum

Hello everyone! I'm a newb here to this forum and to the Lexus community! I used to have an '05 BMW 530i that I totalled, and this past weekend I purchased a used CPO '06 GS300 fully loaded. I am VERY happy to say that I am trully enjoying this car waaaay more than my beemer. I just finished doing the DVD hack thanks to everyone here at this forum!
Now I have a couple of questions:
-Is there a way to turn on the backup camera while driving?
-What video file formats can the DVD changer play (.avi, .mpeg4)?

Thank you everyone for all the hints and tricks!!

welcome to clublexus!

it plays dvd video (TS_VIDEO, that directory format, i don't know what's the standard name). it can also play video cd, which is not a common format here in the US

won't play .avi or mp4. basically you can't just burn a dvd data disc, it won't read

You can turn on the backup camera by putting the car in reverse while it is moving forward. I remember someone tried it and it only went into the reverse gear when the car stopped. Do it at your own risk though...

but at the same time the car goes into neutral, so the car is rolling but no "power"

True, but it does the job. I think it should also be possible to connect the reverse signal cable to a switch to ground and flick it to turn on the backup camera.

Welcome! I am also a new member and bought an 06
cpo GS300 less than two weeks ago. My one thought
about the DVD mod is, did you just void your warranty?
if you have any electrical, radio, nav problems... Will you
be covered?

short answer, you cut wire and that voids your warranty.

but then of course it depends on whether your dealership find out about that or not. if your nav goes wild one day but the wiring is hidden well, you might slip through. but if they find out, it will be on record permanently. i have a lexus tech friend who told me he has had two cases where the cars came in with nav out, he found out about the wire cutting, put on record, all electronic warranty out. but with that said, i know a lot of people with the wire hack on dvd and they have had no problems

Yeah, this is why I've been hesitant about modifying it.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome!
I don't think I'll be throwing my car into 'R' during driving to find out if the backup camera works, but thanks for 'advice'? I actually did a little deeper search and found out there is way (at least on the IS), so I'm not sure if that will work on the GS.
As far as warranty goes, I know it most likely voided my warranty, but I really enjoy entertaining and showing off the DVD capability while driving!

I've always wanted to see the quality and screen resolution when playing a DVD.
I too have an 06 GS3 and have always thought that the video quality wouldn't be that nice
Can someone post a picture please?

Wouldn't it be easier and less risky by buying the Prestigious Society DVD/Navi/BT hack vs. cutting the wires? It costs a few hundred but I'd imagine it would be worth while in the long run......
