The ISx50 guys have and their findings say that regular oil can go longer then 5k but then again, we all have different driving styles. Do a search on it and it will come up, the IS350 and GS350 have similiar motors.

How can I find out if they have always used Mobile One? Its not listed on there reports. I have been told NOT to start using Mobile One on a used car unless the used car has always had Mobile One from day one??>>>
Old wive's tales. I used to change to Mobile1 during the winter and back again to fossil oil during summer when I was in the Air Force living in different places. Car was never garaged during winter, synthetic makes it easier starting when car has been sitting out all night.
My ex BMW came with synthetic from the factory. Oil changes came in at 15,000. No, the engine never felt "stressed'. I think Porsche calls for synthetic al the way with oil changes every 20,000 miles.

The oil change interval is such a BS - I hear that every car that has oil life sensor runs at least 10K miles between oil changes, sometimes 13K or 15K. And in Europe, some cars have oil change interval of 30000 kilometers - about 20K miles. Using same oil as we do. So, are our engines such crap comparing to what they sell in Europe? Don't think so.
Oil changes are just a cheap insurance against engine failure, that we have to pay for, and a way to drum up business. If you go to the dealer, the additional "checks" are written into service; independent shops will often (some - always) give your car a checkup when you bring it in for oil change.
It still amazes me that people change oil every 3K miles. If you are so concerned about your engine - send the oil after 3K to be analyzed, and see that it still has plenty of life left - even conventional oil.

B4 my 06 GS300 I drove a 07 530i and service was all included for 4 years. every time I changed the oil (synthetic of course) and computer was re-set by dealer, computer said I have 15,000 until next oil change. One year I only put 10,000 miles on the car and dealer said bring it in and we will do a courtesy oil change, because oil is a year old, but he did not reset the computer and he told me bring it back in 5k miles and we will do another one. Go figure...I will change mine twice a year regardless of mileage and will use GTX synthetic.

The same with my 04 BMW 330i. The dealer told me to bring it in because it had been 12 months since last oil change.
Twice a year sounds like a good plan to me, since I don't put high milage on my car and my driving is mostly in city traffic.

We own an E class as well, and I know what schedule you're talking about. But, after the oil change you will feel a huge difference in performance, and smoothness of the engine. Do you know what this mean? This means your engine was stressed before the oil change. And, the oil has deteriated way too much by the time it's changed. Because of this, I still change mine every 7k miles on both my E, and the GS.
KevGS...Do change Mobil One every 7K miles? And does your Merc and Lexus dealers do the oil changes?

Yes, I change with Mobil 1 full synthetic, and OEM filter every 7k miles. I always do my own oil changes, so I save about half what the dealer charges.

How often do you change the oil?
True story..The Merc people change oil every 13,000 miles on E Class. Hard to believe but very true. I called down to the Mercedes store three time to make sure.
How long can I go between oil changes with my GS using Mobile one? I am sure someone on this board knows for sure.

The loaner raises your oil change cost. I don't think all Lexus dealers provide loaner for oil change.
