Default Synthetic oil or standard

Lexus does not use Synthetic oil any reason for that? Dealer tells me even if I use Synthetic I should change my oil every 5k...any thoughts or experience...planning to use synthetic on my next oil change.

Very good question about synthetic oil. My mercedes dealer used Mobil One and changed the oil and filter every 13,000 on my 07 E Class. I know it sounds crazy but thats what the book calls for.

When I bought my 2006 GS 300 the other day, I noticed the dealer used Mobile One. This dealer has done all the work and service on my GS from when the car was new. How can I find out if they have always used Mobile One? Its not listed on there reports. I have been told NOT to start using Mobile One on a used car unless the used car has always had Mobile One from day one??

reason for not using synthetic is coz' there is no real reason to? if you do oil change every 5k normal oil is good enough. dealership will always recommend every 5k no matter what oil you use, but if you use synthetic, i am pretty sure you can go longer

How often do you change the oil?

True story..The Merc people change oil every 13,000 miles on E Class. Hard to believe but very true. I called down to the Mercedes store three time to make sure.

How long can I go between oil changes with my GS using Mobile one? I am sure someone on this board knows for sure.

Synthetic all the way!

synthetic oils usually last for 7k~10k miles but the problem is oil filter doesn't last that much so it's recommended to do an oil/filter change every 5k miles.

I do it every 3000miles just to feel better. LOL

When the car is still under warranty, I think you're wasting money on synthetic since you still have to change at least as often as the schedule says anyway.

The only point of synethic, to me, is if you want to extend your oil change intervals. I use synthetic on my motorcycle because I change the oil only once a year.

Isn't the "Standard" oil the cars call for a synthetic blend of some sort?

At Sewell, normally they charge $50 for the standard oil change ($150 for Mobil 1). But they allow me to bring my own Mobil 1, they only charge $30 for the parts and labor.

Oh yeah, loaner is included in the price!!!

If you use conventional oil, 5k is the recommended mileage frequency before it starts to break down. Conventional oil i'm sure could last longer if youre driving habits are less spirited or don't involve city traffic.

In all of my previous vehicles, every single one I changed my oil 7-10k with Mobile 1 5w30. Some of Mobile1's product line is rated to last over 25k.

The problem is the oil filter, longer you let it sit there and collect the worse off you are.

For those of you who change every 3k miles...I'm just too thrifty and cheap to allow myself to do that AND use full synethic on top of it?

Next oil change I plan on doing myself, I'll be using Mobile 1 5000. No need for synthetic oils when it's recommended back then at 3k/months per oil change. Oils now can go longer due to advances that we have now in oil production.

I'm using Mobil 1, and change oil/filter every 7500 miles. Also, the identical Toyota oil filter is approximately $3.00 less at a Toyota dealership vs. Lexus (and they threw in the oil pan bolt washer for nothing - $1.10 at Lexus).

We own an E class as well, and I know what schedule you're talking about. But, after the oil change you will feel a huge difference in performance, and smoothness of the engine. Do you know what this mean? This means your engine was stressed before the oil change. And, the oil has deteriated way too much by the time it's changed. Because of this, I still change mine every 7k miles on both my E, and the GS.
