I was just wondering if anyone uses their custom rims + snow tires in the winter? Would it be stupid to do so?
I am planning on getting some new custom rims for my car, and was considering if I should get some snow tires for it, or just use it in the summer?

If you live somewhere that gets a lot of snow, then winter tires are a good idea. This winter in Toronto, though, they would have been a total waste of tread. Temperatures have been so mild that people on winters are just chewing tread on their winters away like crazy.
The winter isn't going to kill your rims. Just rinse them off every week or so and they'll be fine.

I still have my GS460 Chromies\All Seasons still on. I just make sure the car\rims are washed every 2-3 days. Save the snow tires for next season winter is almost winding down.

Can you even get snow tires in the sizes to fit most of the custom wheels? Unless your custom wheels are similar to OEM - but what's the point of that? ![Stick Out Tongue](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Why risk damage to nice wheels? I see plenty of BMWs and Audis running steelies and winter tires. It's all about functionality at that point.
Even Tire Rack has winter tire and wheel packages with decent looking alloy wheels. Easy peasy!

^ answer is yes but you will pay some big bucks! plus snow tires are best in narrow sizes and on smaller rims. I see a lot of Porsche driving on some really aggressive rear snow tires all the time.
The biggest worry you have in the snow is SALT. Snow wont harm the rims as long as you keep them clean. But you would need a really good A/S or Snow tire on them. Not worth the headache but you could do it.
