TORONTO, Ontario, February 23, 2010 – Toyota Canada today announced that it will install a brake override system on an expanded range of customers’ vehicles to provide an additional measure of confidence. This braking system enhancement will automatically reduce engine power when the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal are applied simultaneously under certain driving conditions.
The following models have been added to the list of vehicles that will receive the brake override upgrade: 2005-2010 Tacoma and 2009-2010 Venza. In addition, Toyota Canada will provide the brake override system for owners of 2008-2010 Sequoia vehicles. Toyota previously announced that the system would be installed onto the 2007-2010 Camry, 2005-2010 Avalon, and the 2007-2010 Lexus ES 350, 2006-2010 IS 350 and 2006-2010 IS 250 models.

Not that I need it... I am not stupid and I know how to use my ignition, brakes, emergency brakes and neutral in emergencies but still... I find it kind of weird how arbitrary the list seems.

Nice! Glad we aren't getting any more electronic nannies! The IS 350 shouldn't have it either IMO...people who buy the IS 350 will actually known what a transmission does (hopefully).

One difference between the GS and IS is that our accelerator is hinged at the floor while (I believe...) the IS's is hinged at the top. The jamming issue with accelerators has been seen on cars with top hinged accelerators. When they floor it, and it gets caught between the mat and the floor, is when they have the unintended acceleration problems. <-- this phenomenon is not possible on the 3GS.

Also I believe the problem is with the floor hinged big ones, you don't need to floor it. If the mat slides up under the accelerator then it cannot spring back up because the mat is stuck between the bottom of the pedal and the floor. I think it depends on the shape of the floor in the car, etc.

I really would not want this "fix" on my car. I like to have control of brake and throttle simultaneously. This mod would make 2 foot driving problematic.
I honestly think these mods are going to create more problems for Toyota than they solve. For instance on the ES forum sine people are reporting shoes getting caught on the shave pedal because the pedal becomes sharp if the dealer doesn't do a great job. That strikes me as being a more likely risk than catching the pedal under the mat.

Because they announced that all newly built cars that they make are going to include this. The toyota recall didn't include any lexus vehicles, related to the accelerator anyway.
