Default D'oh! Sunroof Not Working Properly

Well this past weekend was fairly nice out so i decided to give the GS for a bit. Had the sunroof open no problem but when i went to close it became a problem. The sunroof gets to about 85% closed (to where the black metal bar is up front) then just stops and slides back open. Thought it was a little odd so i tried it again and again. Same results. I realized that if i hit the close button right before the bar to make the sunroof stop moving, i can tap the closed button about 3 to 4 more times to manually close it. Not quite sure what the problem could be and really dont feel like going to the dealer because it seems like it is something fairly simple. It does not make any strange noises or anything out of the usual. As anyone else run across this problem?

Things I would try/check:

1. Make sure the tracks are greased up and there isn't some small particle on the track. Almost sounds like the safety feature is kicking in?

2. If 1 doesn't help then I would disconnect the battery so you can reprogram the sunroof as if you lost power to see if that works.

Sounds like something is blocking it. Really odd. But yeah, I'd try the reprogram thing.

reprogramming it should work. i had a similar problem. my "open/close" did not work but the "up/down" did. when i pressed slide "down," it went down further than the roof of the my car. i just reprogrammed it and voila. goodluck!

let the dealership fix it if there is nothing blocking the track.

yea ill have to disconnect the battery and try to reprogram it. i tried to relearn it already without disconnecting the battery but it doesnt work.

i would take it to the dealer but im out of warranty already (52k) and it really seems like something simple. if i cant figure it out, ill ask my tech before i bring it in.

I hope a simple reset does the trick for you. It's amazing that something as "simple" as a moonroof can get so out of whack that it needs reprogramming. I mean, hasn't identical moonroof technology existed on cars for 20 years now?

I'm currently having the same issue (and I'm also just out of warranty, 54k), were you able to resolve it by disconnecting the battery? If not, what can we do?
Thanks!

Lol its funny but i had experienced the SAME EXACT PROBLEM. It was weird once it tapped the black piece it would open automatically. Its a safety feature on all AUTO windows. When that happend to me i tried pushing the black piece down and it wen't down smoothly without a problem ( nothing was holding it from not going down normally). So i tried closing it in AUTO again, once it tapped the black piece it would go back again. All i did was manually closed the sunroof (would stop the auto feature at about 50% and slightly hold the close button so auto wouldn't kick in) After about 2 tries manually it is closing perfectly fine. I wouldn't worry about it as i have not been worried basiclly its a very sensitive sensor thingy that just get's little too sensitive sometime's.

i didnt have to disconnect the battery. it just started working again lol. i did run my fingers along the track to make sure there was no debris anywhere. i dont know if by doing that i picked up a little bit of debris that was stopping the sunroof from closing or not but it works properly now and i havent had a problem since.
