Default My 2006 GS 300 shakes a lot. Do I have a problem?

I just bought my 2006 GS 300 pre-owned certified yesterday.

Now, I haven't taken it back to the dealer yet but I think I have a big problem and wanted to know your thoughts.

The GS shakes a lot. I mean, more than my 1999 Camry ever did. Especially when going 70+ miles and hour. It is almost like I'm driving on some form of gravel. And I can feel it shaking when I break too at both high and low speeds.

Is this a known problem with the GS 300? I didn't feel it when I test drove it but it definitely is there now. I can feel the vibration in the steering wheel.

Please let me know your thoughts.

it shakes when you aren't braking? could it be tire balance? maybe car sitting on lot for too long and have flat spot?

a lot of possibilities

Steering wheel shakes? Kinda of sounds like it would only happen when you brake. If that's the case, resurface rotors.

1. Check tires and make sure balancing is fine. Or else replace those crappy RFT with non-runflats.
2. Get the rotors resurfaced or replaced if they are warped.

I had car vibrations throughout the cabin with #1 with bad tires and bent rims in the rear. I also had vibration with braking with #2. Car is fine now.

The breaking vibration is a bit different than the high speed rattling. I wonder if it is problems, 2 fold.

I bought it 2 days ago under warranty. I wonder if they check for that kind of thing with pre-owns before they sell them.

I just wanted to check here to see if any others had systemic problems that are like this.

It's probably just the tires is out of round, or one of the rims is slightly bent.

If it was wheel bearings the car would sound like a jet taking off. Anyway, good thing you bought it from Lexus and not from some cheaper vendor in this case, because you can totally go back to them and complain until they get it right. So don't guess, take advantage of that.

tire balancing can cause vibration any time right?

Your tires need to be balanced.

Lexus service told me I had a bent rim. So they're checking on replacements and getting back to me. You guys nailed it!

Glad to hear that they found the bent rim. I had 3 of them with 2 of them being slightly bent that the dealership could not notice on the hunter roadforce balancing machine. I recalled the 2 events when I hit the curb leading to those 2 rims to be scrapped and I decided to get those rims replaced regardless of what the dealership told me since I still had vibration after few months. Now the car is smooth as butter.

I have an ES350 replacement right now and I can definitely tell the difference between what a smooth Lexus ride should and should not be. Even going 20MPH, I could feel and hear the vibration on my GS. I hope that the rim replacement fixes the issue. The manager at the service shop said they couldn't tell from their instruments and had to have one of their mechanics take it home and test drive it. I hope I don't find a used condom in the back seat. ;-)
