You probably either got very lucky (smog detection came on and put it in recirc, or you did it before without noticing). If not, then you damaged it and didn't notice...so it is now in a fixed position.

if it's in auto, then it depends on the sensors and whether the door is open or not. if it's closed, then when you flip on it to open up the door, for sure you will damage it, guaranteed. it becomes a matter of chance, not a good risk to take. read my post above and understand what's happening

15 minutes? It takes 30 seconds to replace the cabin air filter. I don't know what's with all this hoopla and "DIY" instructions. The instructions on replacing the filter are right there in the owner's manual. It's just as easy as replacing windshield wipers.

I did this morning before work took about 5 minutes. But I notice this black thing in the middle of glove box that was hanging down when I change the filter. Anyone know what that is? Is it a sensor? Do I need to be concern that its not completely secure?
