Holly crap!?! That is absolutely insane. At my 30k I only did oil change (which included all those inspection checkpoints) and change break fluid. As it was mentioned before, engine air filter and cabin air filter cost a small fraction and takes about 5 minutes each to replace (the easiest DIY). Tire rotation can be done anywhere for $10 (I get mine free from a place where I bought my tires). In general I do only oil changes at dealership since they do a very detailed inspection of everything, you get free car wash, continental breakfast, and free loaner for a day (well worth $56). And if you open Lexus VISA, it earns you a lot of free points. I have 55k on my car and haven’t paid for oil change yet; 2x Lexus car deposits on it covered it up so far…

WTF, my advisor just quoted me $560 for 30k miles service...

I think the only thing really needed are: oil & filter change, air-intake filter, a/c-filter, and new brake-line fluid; rest of the inspectons are part of regular oil change anyway...What a rip off...

Yikes I'm sitting at 26k. Just started driving the 3GS first time since last fall yesterday. Can't wait til I hit 30k. Ordering some lube right now.

Over $600 and they only change the brake fluid and engine oil? $48.82 for cabin air filter? I got mine for like $5 or $6... wow!

Is changing the brake fluid really necessary at 30k?

If you're not into DIY, contact a Toyota dealer for the remaining maintenance, which basically consists of changing the brake fluid. The rest is eyewash and pure profit.
I did the 30K at a local independent garage. I think it ran about $230 or so. Still ridiculous, but not as bad as the dealer.

Everyone closing in on 30K: Do this now: Fire up google maps, and look for a Toyota / Lexus independent mechanic. Toyotechs in Ga is good. Find someone like them in your vicinity. You will save a lot, and never mind the fancy coffee and leather chairs and HD Tv in the waiting room. I dont think those things are worth a 400% markup.

Westside Lexus in Houston have a big theater room with a very nice big screen tv. Free soda machine with many flavors. Espresso machine, hot tea maker and etc. Lexus provide a large business area with wifi and cell phone chargers. Free rent car with no toll road charges.

On one visit, I fell asleep in the theater room as if I didn't want to go home or something.

I am here to tell you. Lexus service is top notch.

....but even if I own a bank, I don't feel right by paying $600 for check ups. Every time when we check our Lexus-in for service, they are going to stick it to us. It is not the same anymore.

I think KY is better than Vaseline though.

thoughts anyone? this is a good question. Must be a way to inspect the color of the fluid to determine the need for a change.

Many websites to say 30,000 is a good time to flush. Should cost less than $100 to do, however.

If you have another shop do these checkups does this effect the warranty?

Beyond the ridiculous cost, one question you have to ask is: do they REALLY do all the stuff they claim on the invoice? I mean a lot of that stuff cannot be verified. "Inspect" is a nebulous word that can mean a serious examination of various parts, or it can mean that the tech eyeballed various things from under the sump as he drained the oil.
ALL the luxury dealers do this. Try taking your bimmer in for service after the 50K "free" maintenance period expires. Lexus looks cheap by comparison. Same for Mercedes. Dealers don't sell enough of these cars to seriously make a big profit so they get the money via their service departments. People go there because they "trust" the dealers to do the service properly as opposed to the guy on the corner who services everything from Lexi to Yugos and you aren't sure he understands what to do with YOUR transmission. This stuff gets talked about on enthusiast's boards, but most folks just get their check books out.
