Isn't it ironic though, that the generation of children who grew up in China during the "cultural revolution" who stole the land from the previous "Bourgeois" land owners are now grown up - now they and their children aspire to be.....Bourgeois land owners themselves.
"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.
Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage. " - Tytler

eer anyways, 3GS....if it's a 100k car, might as well buy an Aston Martin if you're already that rich.

Kinda on-topic to me. I see the United States heading down a pretty messed up path as well - a lot of Authoritarian Democrats and Neo-Conservative Republicans would see to this.

Anyone in China who is working rich and only has stashed away a few million dollars would probably be prudent and pragmatic and would just blend in with everyone else in dress and drive the cheapest reliable car they can buy if they drive.

I doubt there's that many working rich. You're either RICH rich or poor.

And Thailand's GNP per capita is not exactly in the same league with Singapore..... Ok, I think on the top of the car price you need to buy the license plate in an auction in Singapore, which is hugely expensive. At least it used to be so some 10 years ago.

Yep.
I think I heard as well that Lexus costs even a lot in Singapore in terms of USD.
When I was in Shanghai, China in 2005 there were a lot of LS430s and a couple of IS300s. Never saw a 2GS or any other Lexus (3GS was just being released I think).
Not surprised at the price of cars there. I was also told that there to pay for the license fees is almost like buying a car itself.
