Default Is this normal?

Hey guys,

I just picked up my new 2010 GS350 a week ago... I was just wondering if the following issue is a normal occurence for the vehicle and perhaps I am just scaring myself.

Basically when I start the car up, the RPM goes up like mad to about 2000, then slowly goes back down, however there are times where it slowly creeps back up and back down again (this is while all parked).

I then noticed that when I am driving, at times when I press the brake to slow down/stop, the RPM actually increases to about 2000 before dying back down again. This occurs multiple times whenever I try to brake, I don't actually have any issues with the car stopping because it stops fine, but I just found it odd that the RPM would increase when I am stepping on the brakes (This never happened on any of my old Lexus's).

Is this normal? I thought that maybe this is normal behaviour because the engine is not warmed up, and perhaps its just spurting up the rev's to warm itself up? Does your guys GS's do this too?

Thanks..

If you put in the Power Mode, this RPM jump will become more visible. Those high RPM can help reduce your speed without using too much brake but it also speed your car back to speed faster too.

Sounds liket's just downshifting and matching the RPMs. :/

But yeah probably not a worry.

Saw your post yesterday and paid attention to my 2010 GS350 today.
Upon starting, it occasionally revs up to about 1400 rpm very briefly (AC was on) then down to about 600 quickly.
When I brake, it never rises, only declines.

And FWIW at 70mph, I'm at 2000rpm and at 80mph, 2300rpm so you can compare.

Hope this data helps I think you should have it looked at.

If u like hard braking it will downshift to help u slower the car usually. So as i said earlier its perfectly fine. I am very happy to hear that u have no rattle's hope the 2010 will never get them. Oh btw how is that 80g data thing working?

Well, all depends on outside temperature. At freezing temp it can be around 1500-2000rpm at start, When put in gear it stays ~1000-1200 until it reaches normal temp. I haven't seen it climbing back to 2000 rpm though.

Another "Is this Normal" since I'm too lazy to start another thread.

The other day I drove up the hill but passed the intended address. So I stop, than let go of the brake and the car slowly going backward (gravity) while still in Drive. But I was still looking at the house so I didn't want to change gear. The speed pickup a little and the car stalled and died.

I was able to put in Neutral and start it again, but is this normal?
