Yeah, 2nd gen was solid as a rock. 3rd gen is shakey....

Unfortunately, I think they took a few steps back, design wise, on the Gen 4....it just looks like a plain jane Toyota again.......they got rid of the sporty/fastback look.

I like the fastback look so much, my next car may actually be a 1967 fastback mustang. Maybe a project car I could work on.

You know what I'd like? A car that looks like that on the outside, but has the comfort of a Lexus on the inside with a nice fuel injected modern engine.

i had this same problem when i bought my 06 Gs430. what i found is there are torque bolts on the inside of the sunroof behind the black trim at the very front of the sunroof. if you open the sunroof half way you can get your head up there to see them. pull back the plastic trim from the front of the sunroof where it rides in the track. use a flashlight and you'll see a torque bolt on each side. i tightened those and haven't had any issues since. hope this helps!

the first pic is the plastic piece that covers the bolt, you'll see it when you open the sunroof halfway. the next pic is the bolt once you pull the plastic tab back.

^ I got to the screws today, I tried tighting them but they were tight as it can be. I noticed the rattle is actually from the rail it self, the sunroof had a tab going in to the rail and it makes noise. There is no way to get rid of this sound. Well unless you get a whole new tab thats fatter that sits into the rail.

silverone thanks for the pictures. I tried your method and unfortunately the rattle still remains. I called the dealership and they quoted me $300 just to inspect and remove the headliner and $1000, if the rails needs to be replaced.

Clean the seal really well with spray silicone on a bunch of paper towels, I find it will seat better after doing this. That seal gets super dirty.

UPDATE:

Just couldn't stand the rattle and took it to the dealership. My railing and tension cable were loose and for some $$$, got it fixed and NO MORE rattles.

i got the same problem.. but more of a creak instead of a rattle... don't know if this is the same problem for any of you guys, but I'm sure its whats up with mine.. unfortunately I'm way past warranty and don't feel like going thru all the trouble to fix it.... so i just turn up the volume! lol

for those who are having sunroof problem, i do not have any rattles as of today. The dealership tighten the tracking and some sunroof cables which cost me $250.
