Default is this normal?

I noticed when I accelerate from a stop my car kinda feels a little jerky when changing gears in low gears... Is that normal for V6 GS's? Does something need to be corrected? if so, how should I address the service dept at my dealer so they don't give me the "run around"... Thanks

How fast are you accelerating and how jerky is it? I suppose if you floor it, gear changes will be felt. I personally don't feel them when accelerating normally unless its up a steep hill where it needs to downshift.

Yeah I have awd...I do have a heavy foot, I'm coming out of a V8 bimmer so I guess I'm pushing my V6 Lexus too hard to live up to a V8 maybe? ....the jerk isn't too harsh but it is noticeable...its not really all that smooth

Perhaps its the AWD system kicking the front wheels in/transferring torque. The base A760E transmission used on the 3GS RWD is also used on the 2WD 2010 Tundra/Sequoia 4.6L V8s...so it should easily handle the V6. Interestingly, the the IS/GS AWD uses the A760H transmission whereas the 2010 Tundra/Sequoia/Lexus GX AWD uses a new A760F...

I'm assuming your AWD is on stock suspension?

Yeah if you don't want the jerkiness you should have bought one with an 8-speed and a V8.

It's normal when you rev it and change gears at high speed for the 6-speed to feel less smooth. You will find the same thing with the BMW 6 speeds. The 7 speed and 8 speed transmissions are smoother designs.

If you are finding it jerky at low revs then you have a problem.

Yeah, I notice the jerk when it shifts into second gear from a dead stop... Like I said, its not a violent jerk, but its not smooth at all. I thought it was because I'm a heavy footed driver... But I want to make sure.

Are you sure its from 1st to 2nd? If its from 2nd to 3rd, that would probably be the lock up torque converter...where it goes from transferring torque through a fluid to direct transfer. That is a characteristic of all automatic transmissions. Although it isn't felt on the GS during normal driving.

The only issue that I have ever heard of with this particular transmission is somebody with an IS 350 having the wrong ATF fluid put in and having to replace it due to overheating. Then again, the previous owner may have beat the **** out of it and it may be damaged.

Should've had a V8 and stayed a Holiday Inn Express too.

Best way to be sure is to go and test drive a new one and compare the shifts. If you are noticing this even when you aren't accelerating hard than you may have a problem.

It does this if you step on it and then let go of the gas pedal completely, it downshifts to engine break. I find it's smoother if you don't treat the gas pedal like an on/off switch.
