There's so much information regarding the longevity of synthetic vs. non-synthetic oils. However, I've read very little on the effectiveness of oil filters lasting as long as the oil does.

Honestly any engine oil is good enough if it's API approved and you have the correct weight. We have 400k miles Corollas running that only saw regular dino all its life.
I choose my oil based on availability and cost. If they are priced the same, I would choose Amsoil because the Mobil 1 oil isn't as synthetic as it gets. If I'm going to pay the price of synthetic, it better be fully synthetic.

Oil is pretty much oil if change it regularly. Then you can feel free to stop fretting about what brand it is.
Regarding bullock, I have them in my shortcuts but they are way too out of the way for me to have bothered going to them yet.

Oil is definitely not the same and brands really do matter. My '91 LS400 mileage has greatly improved over the last few years with synthetic oil. Mobil 1 5W-30: 25.5 highway. Amsoil 5W-30: 27.5 highway. Amsoil 0W-30: 28.75 highway. My car is supposed to get 23 highway but now gets almost 29. With premium gas at $3.50 a gallon it's a big savings for me to run full synthetic oil considering the improvement in gas mileage, and I only have to change the oil/filter once a year. Simply put, it's both less expensive and much better for my car.

I tried it once in my 07 Tahoe. Other than the subjective feeling that the engine ran a wee bit smoother, no change in driving style, I did not see any quantifiable gains in "MPG's" or "HP" as they claim. Because I did not see any gains, I went back to using Mobil 1 as I had previously. It's cheaper and available everywhere. And yes, the oil has a purple color tint to it, hence the name Royal "Purple"

I use Amsoil in everything I own that has an engine, from my generator, to my Lexus to my Duramax Diesel. I have for years. It is more expensive but I also run my vehicles longer between oil changes and I run oil analysis on them periodically to see just what the engine and oil is doing.
There is much information out there on the different oils and how well they lubricate under certain conditions. Do some research on the Web. I think you will find that Amsoil beats them all and when you run in conditions like here in Phoenix it is worth the extra money for the safety measure.
Some people love it, some hate it. Fill you vehicle with what makes you feel confident.

there have been so many test and such, it is hard for me to form an opinion. all i know is my lexus uses what ever the dealer pours in, and it has been running strong.
my civic has 180,000 miles, and has been boosting 9 psi. i change the oil every 10k-15k or when ever i get around to it. i have used mobil 1 and I don't burn oil and the compression of my cylinders are within spec. before boost i just picked up what ever was on sale, as long as it was 5w30
