Hello.

I am looking into buying another Lexus. I originally wanted an LSC 430- 2005-2007, but after comparing it to prices of 2006-up GS430 I think I would prefer a sportier looking GS.
I had a 98 LS400 a while back and loved it as the car was trouble free. Is the same expected out of a GS430?
What are the things to look out for? I found a very nice 06 GS with 41k miles for under 24k$ .
Are 6-speed auto boxes as reliable as 5speeds were?

Haven't heard anything wrong with the 6 speed transmissions so that should be fine.

That sounds like a pretty good price.

As for problems, some rattles here and there but I don't think there is anything major.

the 6 speed are good. the gs430 has the same driveway as 04-06 ls430 (07 it was the ls460 already), and that setup is really bullet proof. the gs430 is a good car, but build quality it's unmatched compared to ls430. the ls430 is far superior in terms of quality and fit and finish. but of course, gs430 being the newer generation, it has a few more gadgets here and there. the gs430 also drives quite a bit sportier than the ls430 obviously.

I have no issue with my tranny and I am under 50k miles on a 2006 GS430. Its the rattles that suck. Other then that I have had no issues with mine.

Rattles in a Lexus??? A I reading this right?
Are we talking body creaks,groans, or dash, plastic rattles.
Something that can be fixed? or just a generic flaw?
I dont mind taking a door apart to fix a rattle, but dash is where it stops.

I really like the GS, its just newer and fresher, still in production, and it looks like no other on the road. I would not mind keeping that car for a few years.
It looks like it likes to eat miles and miles of road.

well if you know what you doing, rattles can be fixed. a lot of them are dash related, some are moonroof related, and some others. unfortunately all the new lexus have more rattle issues compared to the previous generations

Well I looked at the GS430 I had in mind.
It was a great looking car. 41k miles, silver with black interior, 18' wheels. but NO Navigation, and that means no Premium sound.. Car was Priced at 23000.

It was a 2006 car. At Bayside Imports, queens. Nice car, a few scratches on the hood from someone putting their woman on the hood. Otherwise the car looks killer, cozy interior.
I wanted Navigation, but Mark ML that comes with it even more.

Just turned in a loaner '06 GS300 w/ 24K mi on it. The dash (passenger side) and somewhere in the center console area rattled like crazy on bumpy roads (the ones with rough asphalt and like 1" cracks across the road)...was glad to get my 05 LS430 back. It has more miles than the GS and is 1 year older and the steering isn't quite as sensitive, but the brakes are better and no rattles. The LS's acceleration isn't as linear (w/ pedal pressure) as on the GS/ES, but it has two levels of acceleration depending on how hard you hammer the throttle. The 4.3 V8 is capable of quick acceleration. I imagine if one took the engine chip out of a GS430 and put it in a LS430, you'd have the best of both worlds. Anyways, back to my primarly complaint of the GS...the rattles! Even the 2001 Honda prelude w/ 42K mi I recently sold didn't have any rattles in the dash, nor did my '86 Toyota truck w/ 215K mi when I sold in back in 2009. Hard to believe a nearly-new (I would consider a top-end Toyota/lexus less than 5 yrs old almost new) $50K Toyota/Lexus could rattle so much. The secondary complaint I had is on the GS, if you drive into the sun (black dash), it reflects up on the windshield, obscuring foward visibility. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I have to drop the seat all the way down due to my long legs. On the LS windshield reflection isn't an issue. Both vehicles look really nice. LS looks classy, GS looks sporty.

Guys, please don't laugh at me but I just had to share this with you guys! So here it goes.

I have been living with the rattling noise inside the car for the past 2 months. And then one day I decided enough was enough! I took the car into the dealer for a quick inspection.

It didn't take too long for the tech to point out the coins placed in the coin slot causing the rattling noise this whole time.

You can imagine my face as I walked out of there..... LOL

No it's on the left of the sports suspension switch in the center console. It is a coin holder blank.
