Default Relay Installation

I'm tinkering with my high/DRL, and need to make a connection from a relay to "battery positive". Short of going to the positive terminal of the battery (what is recommended), does anyone know of a more convenient unswitched positive spot up front that I could connect to?

Normally, no.

I installed HID's in my high/DRL using a ballast. They work fine as high beams, but flicker as DRLs because HID's won't ignite at lower than rated voltage. (Remember, our DRL's are just high beams running at 1/2 power).

So, the vendor (HID Extra) recommended installing the relay, which will either kill the DRL altogether, or run the DRL as a high beam. I don't mind if it kills the DRL, but obviously don't want to run the high beam continuously.

How do you/they expect a relay to fix this? What are you going to use to control the relay? A physical switch inside the cockpit? I'm assuming you're going to use the relay to cut-off the power completely to the ballast to achieve the no DRL thing? Or will you use the wires typically going to your high beams to power the relay which in turn powers the ballasts and your hope is that at half power, the relay won't trigger?

If you don't want DRL, just have your dealer turn them off in the CBEST settings.

Lets seee ... yeah, the fourth sentence.

So, any thoughts on alternatives to the battery connection? I won't even do this if I'd have to connect straight to the battery terminal ... kinda wacky.

why not just run it to the battery? are you putting HID's in place of your DRL/High's?

I guess I could if the wire reaches that far. It just seemed kinda messy to me ... attaching something directly to the battery terminal.
