That's precisely my point. When you have a car which can do 0-120 in 13 seconds, smoking someone is less about who has more power and more a test of who is willing to go faster. Most driver back off at 90mph.
Or willing to die. In this case I wouldn't say you "smoked" them. More like you out driven them. I almost drove someone off a cliff racing with them and I said to myself that I will never do that again.
I prefer to get the future when it's the present, that way I pay significantly less for significantly better products. :P
Early adoption is good for thrills but rarely is the smart choice.
I really think we're getting close to hybrid being a clear choice but we're not quite there yet. I thought direct injection was a clear win when they started coming out but now look at me and my gummed up engine.
i understand your point, but if we were all to adopt this thinking, we would not buy cars at all. we wait for next year's model, because it's going to be better (technology wise, fuel efficiency wise, etc). next year comes, and we hear more good news about the following year's model. so we decide to wait until year two. more good news come out, but it will be available in year 3 or 4. where do you draw the line? because you can technically wait forever to buy a good car you want, and you'll never be satisfied with your choice because new tech, better styling, etc is always around the corner, making the car you just bought obsolete. which is why i advocate buying the best car you want and can afford now, if you are buying a car to keep long term (7-10 years). if you are leasing, then you have the luxury to change cars and be up to date with all the new tech and features when it comes out.
