2011 3GS Owner's Manual : Smart Card Standard?

I know that some of you guys out there have purchased the smart card key from the LS and had it programmed for your 3GS. Looks like 2011 MY come standard with them now based on this 2011 Manual I found.
This would be the first year, no? Or do 2010 models have them (maybe even older)?

I think the "key" word there is "If equipped". I don't think that will be standard.

That's not true. The GS key is compatible with the smartcard. I have a smart card with a key that has been cut by Lexus just for my car. Sewell sent my VIN to Lexus and Lexus cut the key insert and sent it to me directly along with a smart card.

This is true. Any smart fob can be replaced with a smart card. However not models have a working key insert in case the cart dies. In our house we have smart cards for both the GS and the ES. However the ES doesn't have a key because the ES key is not compatible with the smart card insert.
