the dealer wont have this part "laying around". they only keep regular maintenance parts in stock. they would have to order it and im sure its going to cost more than a few hundred bucks.

unless the op can prove the dealer did it, they really dont have to replace the part.

I'm curious to hear how the dealer handled this.

My last GS (2000 GS300 Platinum Series) had the same type of experiences with a particular Lexus Dealer here in MD. First my master brake cylinder went and they had to replace it and they spilled brake fluid on one of my front light lenses cause it to stain. Then I had it detailed there and they left a dent in the roof. It was one thing after another. Final straw was I wanted my front light lenses replaced due to them yellowing and the brake stain, and when they put the front bumper back incorrectly on one side, they scratched up the paint on the other side and never checked their work. My thing is always try to get your car back in better shape then when you gave it but I always seem to get it back in worst shape from them. Good thing I got my money back for the lense installation otherwise Lexus would have heard about it from me.

Basically it goes back to this, if you can do something yourself do it otherwise dealers and shops don't give a crap about you or your car only you do. I now do almost everything myself because of these past experiences.

Unfortunately I agree with you 100%. Seems like it's almost an impossibility to find someone who does things right and really takes pride in their work. I think we've generally shifted to a quantity over quality mentality in the workplace.

I also do everything that I possibly can myself. If I have to get someone else to do it, I warn them ahead of time that I will be a thorn in their side until everything is done correctly, with no collateral damage.
