Water from AC draining into my car
On the floor behind my passenger seat is soaked with water. As I was driving on the interstate, (and I was quite a distance from home) I started to hear water draining/dripping. I live in Tampa and it is obviously 95 degrees all the time, so the air is always on. I heard the water for several miles then it stopped. When I got home that night I noticed the floor behind the passenger seat completely saturated. There was nothing back there to cause this problem and it was not raining. I got out a wet vac and vacumned out the water. I thought maybe it was a fluke but the next day.... same thing all over again.
What the heck is going on?? Is the AC plugged up? Is it possible for the water to back up inside the car instead of draining underneath? Is this a costly situation?? Any help or ideas would be great!! Thanks

If you do a search you'll find there is a TSB for this. I always thought the front passenger footwell was what got wet, not behind the seat though.
Apparently it's expensive out of warranty. Not sure if there are other options, you can try an independent shop or someplace that specializes in ACs? I'm just hoping that either my car already had this fixed before I bought it, or won't develop the problem!
By the way, you're in Florida so I suppose you are using the AC pretty much every time you use the car. Do you use the car often? I feel that this problem likely occurs more often for people in hot and humid climates that the AC gets used often and also drive daily. Likely the drain system never really dries and remains a breeding ground for molds/bacteria and other nasty micro-organisms. I am not aware of what the TSB actually fixes, if it does anything to prevent it from reoccurring or if they just clear out the drain.
As covered in another thread, after you go for a drive with the AC look under your car when you park ... it should be dripping and leaving a nice puddle of water. If not, then it's not draining ... well, obviously it's not if the inside of your car is wet.

this is a big problem for a lot of us. luckily I mentioned this to my advisor last year and they did the TSB work for me.
if you are still under waranty it'll be covered. if you're not it'll be an out of pocket expense.

Thanks. Of course, I am just over 51k so I guess it will be out of pocket. Seems so rediculous that they know that this is an issue in the 06 GS models. I doubt that I will let the dealer do the work and I def want another quote from a regular auto shop. If this is a common problem, there should be a common cure. I think the carpet situation is the real problem.

There is a common cure, a TSB issues by Lexus which fixes the issue free under warranty. Not sure what it entails, but I believe it involves putting in a new A/C drain pipe. It was fixed on the 07+ GS...

I took my car in to Lexus, I have a 06 gs300 with 30k miles on it and 1.7 years out of warranty.. they did it for free no questions asked. All i had to do was throw in the "I have been a Lexus customer since Lexus came out" True statement. The manager OK'd it

Here is the update- I was about 800 miles out of warranty and the dealership said they would/could not help me and it would be out of pocket. I asked my service rep to speak to the service manager and he said he would not do the work under warranty and they would not consider the TSB. So I called Lexus directly and told them the story and they called the dealership. Lexus is comping the entire job! I couldn't be happier! They are fixing the issue with the evaporator, removing the seats and the carpeting & padding for either cleaning or replacement. This is my 3rd Lexus. I am so pleased that they stepped up on this common issue.

8.02.10 I have an 06 GS430. A/C water leaking on to floor behind drivers seat. I would suck gallons of water out of carpet. I called Lexus. They had me take my car to my Lexus dealer Tom Wood Indianapolis. They confirmed my homework. TSB bulletin on this issue. Lexus covered 100%. I couldn't be happier! The staff at Tom Wood is outstanding and I appreciate Lexus stepping up on this issue even though my car is out of warranty. Great Job!
