Default Possible new buyer..questions about IPOD sound quality.

First off let me introduce myself...I am a 33 year old male who has been drooling over the Lexus GS 3rd Gen's since they came out in 2006. I currently drive a 2005 Nissan Armada that is just about paid for and was looking at steping into a 2008 Lexus GS 350.

My whole life I have been an aftermarket radio type of guy. That is my biggest concern with the Lexus...I have been rolling around with Pioneer headunits with Ipod integration for the past 3 years or so and I don't know if I can live without it. I can live with the factory Navigation..I will just add a Rockford 3sixty to it...will definately upgrade all of the speakers all the way around on put a 12 inch sub or two in the truck...

I guess my question is...How is your guys Ipod sound quality using the after market adapters such as the one in this link?

http://cgi.ebay.com/VAIS-TECH-Lexus-...item2c5539fc32

Also how fast does the adapter work and how is the function of the steering wheel controls?

rominl...thanks for the quick response. I burn all of my music to my Ipod off of my CD's at Apple lossless format. I just wanted to make sure there was no sound quality loss due to the adapter. Lexus could have made this decsion alot easier for me if they wouldn't have integrated the A/C controls into the Nav unit.

Read this. I think this is the best solution for you. Dice also has a very good digital product.

The device rominl mentions is the one I have and there is sound quality loss with that. Not with the one in LeeLadisky's post.

Now your talking my language...looks like this will be the best option. I am back on the GS bandwagon...I don't know what I am so worried about as the price of the VML ($300) plus the price of the Rockford 3sixty ($300)..is still about $400 cheaper than the pioneer Navigation unit that I was gonna buy for this. Thanks fellas for the help...I think I have finally made up my mind.

Remember to get one of these too. It's pretty useful.

You can get the kit on ebay for $200. I would recommend it. There are a lot of components on the car that use the motion sensor. If you do it wrong your nav and speed sensitive features may not work properly.

Personally I would not recommend that one. It is a rebadged Vais unit as far as I can tell. As such it is analog. Which may be fine for some, but it doesn't maximize the sound quality of the ML system.

I made the same choice. But now I would go for a digital solution like the Vaistech VML. When I put a CD in the DVD drive it sound better than the same track on my iPod interface.

The other problem with the Lexus unit is it is not compatible with satellite radio so you have to choose between sat radio or iPod.

the toyota kit is absolutely NOT a rebadge of the vaistech kit. i have installed and used both systems. they are very very different, including the whole module itself. the toyota system is also a lot more limiting and doesn't offer as many functions. and yes, i am pretty sure it's analog as well

You must be right. I did remember reading on the forum when I was choosing one that it was very similar to the Vaistech SLi and hence more limiting than the SL2i.
