Lexus dealer (Jim Falk Lexus in Beverly Hills) called Thursday saying the techs finished training for the TSB last week, they have the parts and are now taking appointments for Sept. 10. I asked him when did they start doing the TSB - he responded Sept. 10 would be the first day for appointments.

I'll wait a a few weeks and let them experiment on other cars before I drop mine off.

Yikes, the thing about the training actually would have me worried. What this basically means is that they are going to try to use the oil change monkeys to replace valve springs.

I'm pretty sure that when I had mine done, not under recall, that they would have had to use one of their senior staff for the job if not the foreman and even then, *something* went wrong that I had to bring the car back about that I really am not too sure given the circumstances that they were completely forthcoming about.

Well I have my car back! I guess it runs better....well kinda like when you wash your vehicle and it makes it happy so it runs snappier.....My dealership stated they have only done "6 or 7 valve spring replacements so far."

Same here, just got my toy back on Saturday.

Maybe is just mental, but seems it got more power and shake is gone.

For now will take it easy till it is broken in again, then I will let you know for sure !!!

Oh here is what I saw at the showroom while I was waiting for my ride, HOOK 'EM HORNS !!!

Loved the color, except the price tag of the paint job ($9,500)...

LOL, hold up you actually need to brake it in after valve springs replacement?

were they trying to sell it as new? not saying that the paint job looks bad, just that I would never buy a "new" car that had totally been repainted aftermarket.

sorry to go off topic.

"MyLexus".com still says my 08 GS350 is fine and doesn't need any recalls....::scratchingmyhead::

Yeah I don't get it. First thing I did after my car was done was gun it all the way home.

It was probably $1500 for the paint job and another $8000 for the horns logo. It's Texas, after all.

I know, but I rather play safe than be sorry...

Besides that have you notice the shake/vibration is gone, and drives a little more smoother now?!?

If that is the case, hopefully they donate portion of the profit to the horns.

Beside the IS in the showroom, I have seen a LS460 or a LS600h with the same paint job in HighLand Park area...

Yes, but I'm sure it's a bunch of different factors that play into it. Mine was quite bad before they did all sorts of work to the car including a lot of idle bouncing when warming up when first started for the day which went away.

These are all of the things that happened to my car during my quest to try to get rid of the vibrations and idle issues.

1) Replace O2 sensors with redesigned ones.
2) Replace engine ECU with redesigned one.
3) Replace PCV (probably not redesigned but part of above TSB).
4) Replace valve springs and related hardware with redesigned ones.
5) Replace broken MAF sensor o-ring.

The only thing missing from the list is engine decarbonization, it is not clear whether they did this as part of the valve spring job or not. Workorder doesn't mention it, but the service people all told me that they did it as part of the valve spring TSB so I have no idea.

No reason really to follow a 'break-in' period on just valve spring replacement. If the retainers aren't going to hold, they're not going to hold, regardless of how light/hard you drive it.

I'm late to this party, but dealer (Herb Chambers, Sharon) called me last week and scheduled appointment. After reading this thread I postponed to re-think: two-tenths of 1% failure rate, 9 months left on lease... at a minimum I may wait and let techs practice on other peoples' cylinder heads.
