2007 LEXUS LS460
Safety Recall ALE - Certain Lexus GS 350, GS 450h, GS 460, IS 350, LS 460, LS 460 L, and LS 600h L Vehicles - Valve Spring This is an important Safety Recall. Please contact your authorized Lexus dealer and schedule an appointment to replace the valve springs with the newly designed ones as soon as possible.

What is the Condition? During the manufacturing process the valve springs on certain Lexus vehicles were contaminated with a foreign material. As a result, the strength of the spring might be compromised. Over time, there is a potential for the valve spring to develop a crack and eventually break. A broken valve spring may result in abnormal engine noise, vibration, and/or power reduction. In the worst case, the engine may stall or not accelerate as quickly as anticipated, which could result in a crash.

This can't be done accurately. Techs are human, their is going to be someting missed?
Im thinking against having this done? what happens if you are past the power train waranty and this valve spring(s) break? Would the engine be covered if you didnt get this done?

thanks
concerned GS350 owner
i think someone mentioned this already that since its a lexus recall, it won't matter if you are past the powertrain warranty. you should still be covered

Recalls are covered regardless of mileage and/or age.

MY service manager told me the spring broke on 2 cars in the past year. One on start up? How can a millimeter make a spring that much stronger?

One millimeter is a good deal of difference talking percentage wise.

So, what is the current situation of having the recall done? Are people making appointments, showing up, and are done within a day or two, or is there still a back up due to parts and the learning curve of the mechanics? Are people getting turned down by service advisors? Have people been leaving their cars for days... weeks?

LMAO, you guys are freakin hysterical.

We are knocking these out left and right on the GS and IS350 motors. You have nothing to worry about.

Most of you have had the 9LA recall done, most techs got their feet wet on that one. That and the cam actuator TSB.

Hysterical? Hardly. There's more than sufficient reason for owners to be cautious or even reluctant to get this done at all. Plenty of people out there have had bad experiences with their dealership performing simple routine maintenance, yet alone something this invasive.

I'm glad your dealership is getting through these without incident. My dealership reports the same thing, although they said they've only done 15-20 of them so far.

How many do you think you've done so far? Have you had any customers with broken springs? Can you tell if it's made any difference in engine noise, idle speed or anything else in any of the vehicles you've serviced?

Not sure if you were directing that comment at me... but...
I didn't want to waste time making an appointment, going in, and having my car sit there for days waiting to be worked on... either because the SA doesn't want to disclose that their mechanics aren't competent yet, or the non availability of the parts.

80-100+ and counting recalls. Its the second largest service dept in the country. We service about 180 cars a day... With no appointments.

Just get the recall done. And there is no difference in the vehicle acceleration or power after the recall. People who are reporting that need to get their butt-dyno calibrated.
