what i don't understand is if 3.4 mm is good enough, why go with 3.5 mm for the recall? and what are the pros and cons of going with 3.5 mm as opposed to 3.4 mm? i know it shouldn't make a difference, but 3.5 mm sounds like it's 'safer', from a psychological stand point (ie: it's thicker and less likely to break and so it should be better).

Yep. Maybe we'll find out next year that the 3.4mm springs caused a low number of engine failures.

It's stuff like this that they must make crystal clear in order to regain people's confidence.

The recall is one thing and the car will get fixed, but now I have to take off my aftermarket wheels and raise the car up so that the techs dont rash my wheels and scrape my kit all up. I never take my car to the dealer. What a pain.

lol, should have developed a good relationship with some tech i am glad one of the master tech is my good friend and i don't have to worry about anything going to him

or maybe you can bring the car to SA and ask him to walk around and look at the kit/wheels to make sure it's all in good condition. ask him if they are able to handle the car, and if not, they will pick up the bill?

Ill ask again.....Do u guys think our cold/warm start clatter/nasty noise, is partially due to the spring issue??? and maybe causing the "faulty" cams????

I noticed someone posted a TSB for a steering component - what is it for?

The reason i ask is when I'm on a highway that is bending slightly to the left, I'll turn the steering wheel slightly to the left, and when the highway straightens out, I release the wheel thinking it will straight itself out - but it doesn't do it immediately! It takes a split second to do that. So when I try to straighten it out myself, I feel this slight resistance I have to overpower to get it straight again. It doesn't happen when the road bends right though, only left...

I highly doubt it's an alignment issue... the car holds straight when cruising.

I doubt it. This is a characteristic of the direct injection used in the V6. I don't think our brothers with the V8 have this noise even though we share the same springs.

Yes I don't have this issue with my V8 which does have bad springs. My car starts up in a silky way like a Lexus should.

dang, sux to hear this. I'm away from my gs so I can't check the VIN until later today but since it's 08 and I know it was built in early 08 it most likely will be in the list.

Yo B2, if you signed up for Lexus Owners on Lexus' website, you should have a VIN on the site. I didn't have to check my 3GS because mine's there.

2 separate issues:

Cold start clatter -- check out TSIB: EG020-07, had something to do with the cam gear

"Ticking" noise is inherent to ALL DI engines, BUT the valve springs replacement will quiet it down a bit...see my post-valve spring install review (post # 55 on this thread).

I was informed by my service adviser that parts will not be in-stock till early August, I guessed we (ones that is on the HIT LIST) have to take it easy with our right foot!!!
