Smart Key
Is it possible neighbors wireless electronic equipment can cause smart key not to function properly? Only when at home (in the garage or in the driveway) the smart key comes up with "Key not Detected" and I have to hold it up to the push button start to get it to start. Had the car 5 months and it just started this about 10 days ago. When I leave my property the car always starts as designed. Replaced battery and checked voltage of battery with a voltmeter and it indicates a full charge.

I would find this surprising. I live in a condo in an area with a ton of high rises and public wifi. Plus in addition to a cellphone, I have a built in security system which does GSM-assisted GPS tracking and is de-activated by a proximity lock which ties to a second wireless fob attached to my keyring.
So effectively I am running an extra secure id proximity sensor system in the same car, and in an area with public wifi, and a car which is permamently connected via a GSM data connection in addition to my own cellphone.
And I have no issues with key sensitivity. The key can be anywhere in the car.

Taking a wild guess, maybe it is time for new battery for your Smart Key... even though you owned the vehicle for less than 6 months, but battery might not be!?!
FYI... Order the battery from eBay, it cost less than a buck per battery, five bucks at RadioShack, or ten bucks at the dealership!!!

i have the same situation as you with my smart key and this is been happing ever since i bought my car. it only happens in front of my house. i live very close to a police station and i figured that maybe they use jammers or other devices that affect the transmission of the smart key. so maybe you have somebody or something in your neighborhood that is using jammers and what not.

There are guys ...
who operate businesses for detecting RF (radio frequency) interference. They use multiband receivers called sniffers to find the problems. Sometimes amateur radio operators (HAM's) will do this at no charge.

have you found solution to your problem? I have same symptoms, except both fobs don't work at all. First I was getting low battery warnings, so i replaced new ones, but that didn't help....
Thx

Does anybody have any clue what frequency band the keys operate on?
I wonder if it's a neighbor with 2 or 3 wireless routers installed with DD-WRT or Tomato custom firmwares with their transmit power jacked all the way up to maximum (many times the power they come set at from the factory).
But Wireless-G is generally in the range of 2.4 Ghz, so I'm going to guess it doesn't apply to the key fob at all unless they are leaking all over the spectrum.
It also could be if you're parked very close to power transformers on the street, or perhaps if you live very close to an power switching station. In this case, I'd guess that you'd find interference with all sorts of other electronics including cordless phones and poor wifi connections.

I've had similiar issues with my key as well...even with brand new batteries, key not detected shows up often enough to be annoying. But mine happens at many locations..pretty random.
