Default Lip on GS350 rotors

Took my GS to the local toyota dealer for a front brake service today. Got a call saying that there was a large lip on the rotors and they couldn't be surfaced. Car has 68k miles on it and only brake work was done around 25k, brake pads service bulletin, not sure if they surfaced rotors then or not. Does this sound right? Price given was 479 plus tax. Is that a reasonable price?

Not sure what they mean by that. At any rate, I find it's not really worth bothering turning rotors. Use them until they're clearly shot and then replace them with aftermarket rotors you can find online for MUCH cheaper which are just as good or better.

from what my tech has told me, the rotors on these cars arent that good and rarely does he see one that he can resurface and still meet specs.

$479, what does that cover? is that for a the front brake job including pads and rotors? id say thats reasonable considering the front rotors usually are about 125 a piece from lexus.

Thanks for the help. Any thoughts on some good aftermarket rotors?

I've heard that the plain jane Centric Premium Rotors are good value for the money. Centric owns StopTech.

When i had my pads/calipers done under the bulletin, they did my rotors too. I would tell them that the faulty pads had something to do with the lip. its all relative to me.

If i were you, i would visually inspect the rotors and see if they are that bad. Oem pads are very soft so they shouldnt be doing damage to the rotor unless warp.
