Default extended warranty on CPO car

basically I am buying a CPO 07 gs350 with around 27k miles. the warranty included in the CPO is 3 years @ 100k miles. i will most likely reach the 3 years first before the 100k miles so i was thinking of adding more years. the financing guy at lexus told me that when buying a CPO used car if you wish to add more years on the warranty you have to do it the day of purchase and cannot do it later on. he said on new cars you can add on anytime but for CPO used cars you cannot according to toyota. is this true?

Default CPO Extended Warranty

I do not believe it can be extended at all as a Lexus CPO warranty. I believe you can only purchase an extended service warranty, which would not be the same as the CPO warranty and would not cover as much and would most likely be quite expensive. I looked it up on line and that was how I found out about this. Lexus states quite simply in their online site that the CPO warranty is only for 3 years or 100,000 miles, whichever, comes sooner, and does not indicate that it may be extended. If you want to pursue this, make sure that they are offering the "real deal." The new Lexus extended warranties are a little pricey and the most you can get is 125,000 miles and eight years from in-service date. I looked up the Lexus warranties online and told them I would buy one from them only if they could match the online price, and they did, saving me a little over $600. The CPO warranty is wrapped into the price of the vehicle, so you really do not know how much you are paying for it. It is just part of the deal for a CPO Warranty.

What the dealer told you is correct. I am just purchasing a CPO myself and have had them before. You can only buy an extended at the time of purchase and from the purchasing dealer. It is not extending the CPO, but rather, is a platinum extended which covers pretty much the same as the CPO will.
