Unhappy My GS300 just got rear end

My wife was on her way home from work today and the traffic on the freeway was crowded. She slowed down and a semi-truck hit her 2006 GS300 on the back, the driver was following too close and he couldn't stop at 70mph. The rear bumper, rear brake lights, spoilers, trunks are messed up bad. The car was driveable but the trooper would not let us because of the brake lights. We had to tow it to the body shop two hours ago.

What should I tell the body shop to check if they need to fix the rear? I'm thinking about the rear suspension since it's rwd, lights, trunk closer motor, bumper enforcement, amplifier, and the trunk lid for now. The guy at the body shop said the repair will take at least 2 weeks and I request Lexus original parts.

Woud you guys recommend anything else that needs to be checked?

That sucks. Worst part is that the resale value of the car just took a nosedive and it wasn't your fault at all.

Of course that doesn't matter as long as you drive it for many more years. As long as everything gets repaired well the car will be better than it was before the mishap.

I would highly sugges taking it to lexus vs mom n dad shop if the repair isnt coming out of you're pocket. Just incase of any imperfection they will bak up they're work. On top of that they will match the paint 99.9%.

My Lexus dealer is 2 hours away in Tulsa, OK since I live in Arkansas. I went to the Toyota dealer and they recommended me this body shop. It's heart breaking to see my favorite car got smashed.

As long as its Toyota/Lexus you should be fine and everything stays under warranty because they did the work. I hope it come's out better then what it used to be.

+1, Here hoping your Wife is safe. If you can have them declare the car as totaled, definitely get a new car.

if the frame is bent, it will probably have to be totaled.

This is why after we settled with the insurance, we had a guy filed for diminished value. We were paid $2400 less his fee of $200. You can only do this once on any car though.

The insurance estimator is being an azz today. They will not authorize car rental yet because they want to see the police report, send someone to see the car which will take 3 or 4 days according to them. I have to get my own insurance agent to involve but still have no rental car as of now.

My wife is going to get x-ray and check out her neck soon. My friend told me just sue the he** out of them since they are being jerk even the semi-truck driver got citation at fault for following too close. I will see if I can get the car totaled but it will be tough with this insurance company. My pampered Lexus looks like pancake now if you look from the back

Default GS 300 Rear Ended

If you can handle the deductible for the time, turn it in through your insurance and you should have no hassles, get the rental through them immediately, and when the claim is all settled you will get reimbursed your deductible and be on your way. I never mess with the other driver's insurance. They can run you in circles, demand you use aftermarket parts, etc. I did this twice in the past 12 years. You pay premiums for service, so you may as well get it. The accident will still be processed as not at fault, as far as your insurance is concerned. It may take 5 or 6 months to get your deductible check in the mail, but you will most likely have a better outcome. In fact, on my last damaged car my insurance agent recommended I do it that way. It was taken to the shop right away and within 30 minutes I was out the door with a new rental (although it was a Chevy). I got my car back in 6 work days.

For the last about 30 years passenger cars do not have frames, except maybe Ford Crown Vic. It is all unibody construction.

lexusscturbo,

I haven't check the doors since it was 4 p.m. in the traffic and we had to tow the car quick. We talked with our insurance and they also have troubles either to talk with the driver's insurance or to make them authorizing the rental. Unfortunately, we don't have car rental insurance policy and they recommend me to rent the car myself and send the bills later.
