Default Dealer refuse to repair faulty parking sensor

I bought a certified 2006 GS 300 about year and a half ago at a Lexus dealer Everything was good until about a week ago one of the front parking sensor has been going off even thou there is nothing.
The car previously had light front end collision and I guess dealer fixed it before they sold to me... anyways, I took the car to the dealer to have the sensor repair and they say the sensor is painted and won't cover with the warranty.
Does this makes sense to you guys? I bought the car like this and dealer is the one who sold as certified... and they are refusing to repair because the car has a sign of body repair work?
I need some advice of what I should do or what I can do to have them repair it.
Please give me your input.

Thanks,
John

Is your car "CPO" certified? They SHOULD fix it if they certified it. Aren't these sensors painted from the factory?

I would show them the carfax or autocheck to prove that accident occurred before and not after the CPO. My guess is that this may be why they are not paying.

Pretty sure they are just colour matched from the factory.

Do they mean that the sensor has been "painted over"? As in, somebody took a brush and literally put paint on top of it?

As usual, try the typical things yourself first. Clean super well, carefully, make it spotless, get any gunk and grime off it or built up wax etc. Then check the connections at the harness, may be getting loose, maybe water has gotten into it. Clean the harness well with electrical contact cleaner, check all the pins.

Good chance one of those two things will solve the problem because I have a hard time believing that the sensor itself can just "go bad", it's just a simple piece of solid state electronics.

The car is CPO.
The sensor it self comes painted matching your car color I think... But there is a rubber piece around the sensor and between the sensor and the bumper is painted.

The sensor on my car failed before I even took it off the lot. It couldn't have been very dirty with only 25 miles on the odo. My parents' GS450H failed with 20k miles. I think there's an issue with this part.

Best bet is for you to call the 800 number for Lexus Cust. service and talk to someone there. Then they might be able to override the dealership and get your work done. If you are in So Cal I get my stuff done at Lexus of Westminster they take good care of me.

yeah same here in HI, most times when i go to the CPO lot, alot of them are in bad shape and waiting to be fixed.. huge dents, key scratches etc.. initially I was gonna buy an CPO LS but after reading the carfax, i changed my mind. To the OP, hope you get it fixed.

I bought an 06 GS430 CPO in '08. Shortly after buying it, 2 back sensors went bad and kept going off in bright sunlight on their own.

Lexus Service fixed it no questions b/c it was still w/in the CPO warranty. You should have no problem getting it fixed.

6 months later another back sensor malfunctioned and they fixed it again no questions.

I agree with others in this thread. Sounds like these sensors may have a higher failure rate than it should.

My dealer in LA fixes everything under warranty -- sensors, rattles, f-sport sway bars. PM me if you want my dealer service advisor's name. I'm really loyal to him b/c he's always taken care of all the problems that have popped up.
