OP seems to have 2010 gs350. starting 2010 with gen6 system iphone contacts can be transferred. but unfortunately i don't think there is easy way to select which contacts to migrate over. personally i am not a fan of having contacts stored in car anyway for security reason. can't understand why they don't just access the info from phone and show on screen

Yep, the implementation makes no sense to me. There are perfectly good bluetooth profiles for getting that information on the fly. Not a whole lot of phones natively support the phonebook transfer profile. Most Sony phones do in my experience, and newer Android phones do. I know I can certainly select groups of contacts (or all) on my phone to send.

There may be an "app for that", but I got rid of my iphone long ago for Android so I can't comment.

i didn't realize this until i got the m3 and wow, it's "genius". when i get in the car, the "phone book" is all mine coz' it's accessing my phone for all info, including all the updates i put in over time. when my wife is in the car, it's her phone book. very straight forward

unlike the gs, i never even bother to try transfer phone book over

I had impression that all contacts whatever number of them you can have get synchronized with a car system, at least how it works in my BMW. Nothing to select manually.

for sure lexus and bmw work differently. lexus, you have to literally transfer and store the numbers in the nav system. bmw, it accesses the database in your phone real time

Is there any lag in latency between the car and the phone's bluetooth? In the bmw.

The thing I hate about this is, and it's not technically the car's fault but all phones I've tried it with have the same problem, is that if you have a contact with multiple numbers when you export to the car it only picks up one of the numbers for the contact.

I've had to make extra contacts with different name for each number in my phonebook where there are multiple numbers like (Home, Cell, Work).

nop, no latency (well, not noticeable) at all. i can browse through the phone book with the infamous idrive and it picks up all the data pretty quickly
