Nice find!

To all that are getting the rattles in the 3 + year old cars......I have taken my center stack (cup holder and shifter location) plastic fake wood trim out of the car. I then took the car for a ride and all of my rattles stopped. I came home, got some thin strips of tape insulation and applied it to all the areas that creeked while I moved it in my hands. I also put the insulation on all the clips that snap into the dash where they meet together. My rattles are all gone thanks to about an hour of work. Really easy to do and it makes all the difference in the world! Sorry to get off topic!

careful....all the wood in the car is real wood. it's just that the steering wheel is solid wood whereas the trim pieces are plastic based pieces with real wood glued on top.

you are asking for trouble here. want to do a bet and use sandpaper to sand down the surface clear on the shift plate and see what we find underneath?

all the trims are wood overlay, and that's pretty standard way to do it

Ahem. We don't refer to it as fake plastic wood. Please. It may only be 1 micron thick and completely dependent on the plastic structure it covers so that it doesn't fold like a piece of paper, but it's REAL walnut and birds-eye maple!

I know I'm asking for it too, but frankly the thick clear coating makes it look and feel like plastic, so as far as I'm concerned it may as well be. I would prefer a more natural looking and feeling finish ... similar to what is on a fine piece of furniture.

I was looking for something like that earlier this week, but the closest I could find was felt tape, which was too thick. What specifically did you use?

^ It seems Lexus added more "gloss" to the wood starting with the 3GS. Its far shinier than wood in the 2GS or 1GS.

I do love the grey/blackwood! Wish I had it.

yup, all the new lexus has a lot more gloss on the wood trims. good or bad, hard to say. personally wood trim is not something i care that much anyway. i always prefer aluminum trim if available

Your furniture don't sit out in 100 degree direct sun burning on it. I think this is why stuff in the car don't make like furniture.

Me too. I think it's lighter than these plastic stuff and stronger. But than again, touching aluminum in zero degree winter climate wouldn't be great.

Funny I hate wood in the home but love wood in the car Maybe when I get older I'll like ton of wood inside. My wife likes the aluminum trim in her RXh but she seems to like cherry wood. Her best bud just got a RXh too with cherry wood. SWAP TIME (not)

I wish Lexus offered PIANO BLACK trim.

ah yes, piano black is another great choice, saw it on bmw and mb, gorgeous, super class and elegant, imho even more so than tradition wood trim. aluminum trims are on the sporty side of course

Piano black is stunning! If only Lexus offered the GS with red leather and piano black wood. How about using it as the 2011 Pebble Beach edition GS?

I know its not for everyone but I liked the Passionate Black, shame it was so rare.

Japanese options

This on top of the built-to-order interior choices that buyers are offered by Lexus Japan. There are reportedly 40,000 possible combinations for the LS.
