Navigation question - any way to keep road detail on screen when zooming out?
I tried to search for this, but there are too many posts on navi hacks, etc. and no concise search terms to use for this question. Here is the question - when my navi screen is up on my 2008 GS, and once I zoom out past 700 ft (I think, I may be off one zoom level), the only roads that show up are major roads.
For example, if I am on the highway, and want to zoom out to 1 mile increments, I lose all road detail except the highways. I can't see any roads that are off to the sides of the highway unless I zoom in to 700 ft. So say I am stuck in slow traffic and want to see what side roads I can take and that travel for miles in the same direction as the highway. There is no way to do that except zoom in, the scroll with your finger, which is a pain while driving. And by scrolling you also quickly lose your current location on the screen.
Another example - I am on a smaller road and want to get to the highway which is 20 miles away. But I want to see multiple routes and view those routes from a zoomed out view - this is basically impossible with the Lexus navi. My current location doesn't even show up on a road. It's on a blank area surrounded only by highways.
My wife has an Acura and when you zoom out with that navi, you still get quite a bit of road detail. I can understand that as you zoom out you will lose some detail, but with the Lexus you lose pretty much all of it if you want a navi screen that is zoomed out even a small amount.
Sorry for the long post - any known fixes out there? I tried looking through all the settings and couldn't find anything. Thanks in advance.

No you can't. Your Acura may have a higher definition display. The 2008 GS has a lower res display.
What I do is use split screen mode where on left I have a zoomed in map set to direction of travel with road detail visible. On the right I have a zoomed out map which is set to north. This way I can see where I am and also the local detail.
