Default Automatic Smog Detecter/Filter

Has anyone ever seen this come on, or does anyone know how it works? I am talking about the button by the other climate buttons that has a symbol of air blowing through a filter. I can manually activate it but in the manual it says it is automatic also.

Set to "Auto" mode and that's it =)
AC not working if outside temp is below 0 degrees. (not sure...)

Press "Auto" button for 3-5 sec continuously to adjust "smog sensor" in 5 levels

The automatic part is the car switching to recirculate mode when that is set to auto.

The button is to get rid of any odors that are already inside.

So does this thing have an Ionic Breeze built into it?

So what tells it to switch?

I'll mess aroung with the Auto button, does something show up on the screen that tells me what sensitivity I am at?

I really want to hear more about what type of sensor is in this thing.

sensor is behind the grille and monitors the air coming into the cabin if in fresh air mode. If it senses contaminants, it will switch to recirc to prevent them getting into the cabin. Filter switch will engage recirc for a period of time to filter cabin air.

I know how a lot of sensors work; temp, resistance, conductivity, ect, but how does this smog thingy work? Does it have a partical counter built in? I am thinking the smog particals are charged so it senses a electrical charge.

The sensor doesn't seem to pick up diesel fumes but works pretty well on other pollutants. So I doubt it is a particle-type sensor. If you have sensitivity problems check out this post: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...-cleaning.html

My one seems very sensitive to diesel fumes, switches to recirc very often when behind a diesel.
